I am new to this but just wonder if anyone has heard of priority of patients, based on health issues etc or is it done first come first serve basis?

Thanks
Angela

I am not sure. I had to lose 20lbs before my surgeon would do my surgery because he wanted my liver to shrink a little.

I think it really depends on your surgeon and your insurance issues. My doctor would not schedule the surgery until insurance approved (unless I wanted to self pay). Once insurance approved and I met their other requirements (lab tests, etc), I was scheduled for surgery within a few weeks.

It definitely depends on the surgeon. Mine schedules surgery for self-pay individuals immediately and then for others once they've 1 - met his weight loss goals pre-op, and 2 - gotten insurance approval. His office didn't even put the insurance request through UNTIL I'd lost around 40lbs. The entire process for me started in March and ended in August.

Toward the end of the year he also seems to prioritize people who've already met their annual deductible, which is nice of him.
