I am so addicted and I don't know what to do

Maybe your preop testing will only consist of testing to see where your baseline is.  Maybe it will be an ultrasound to check your gallbladder and perhaps the doctor will have other required tests and steps for you to do prior to the actual surgery.  Each doctor is different.  The worse thing to do, though, is to stress about it.
Please try to stay positive and work on the mental preparedness for the surgery.  You must be mentally prepared to make this work for you.  When people are our size, the benefits of this surgery are obvious, but it doesn't make the decision any easier.  SO.....you must prepare, stay positive and do this for you & your loved ones.  You will not regret it.  So many things will change for you and it will happen quickly once you set your mind to it.
Worry is a waste of your energy.  Put it to rest and focus on all the goals you will have.  Start with small goals and as you lose, it will be even more exciting.
This forum is a lifeline for us.  The people here really CARE.  They share openly and candidly.  We are in this together.  YOU CAN DO IT and we will be here for you.

Thanks so much everybody!  I appreciate your advice and I said a prayer that I would be able to recall it all and use it to help me.

Overeaters Anonymous is helpful for me to understand some of my addiction issues.

I can't get a handle on the just stopping overeating thing. I am hoping the surgery will help me with the physical hunger, so that I can control the mental and emotional parts without physical hunger pains driving me crazy.

whyyyyyy are you getting just the VSG not the full DS? Does your surgeon do the DS or will do it as a second stage? I hope that just restriction will be enough. I don't think I could keep off the weight without the malabsorption kicking in.

As far as weight loss,  I am sorry I can't give you many good ideas - I know a lot of folks just did the low carb thing as much as they could.

Hi Iam glad u made the decision to have the surgery . I know in Canada its a bit different. however, why has your doctor not scheduled u to see a nutritionst on a regular basis.  as well why are u not seeing a psyciatrist on a regular basis as well . Iam not calling u crazy.  You need to figure out what is making u  eat. .  something in your child hood.  a tragidy u have not delt will. (PTSD).  Post Tramadic Stress Disorder. I  was depressed for years for so long and didn't know it . It was part of my life . until I couldn; t get out of bed.  and my weight balooned to 477 + I think of it as a big puzzle  ,  nutrion, psyc, medication, sleep apnea under control. surgery family , friends. exercise.
Stick to high protien . no fat. get rid of the pop even diet pop. U can do this. Yes its hard. I had my surgery on Sept 3 08  I lost about 60 pound before surgery  took about a year  then after the surgery I have lost about 50 pounds. I was also not able to walk very far a few steps and then I would be out of breath , in pain embarasses. I rarely went out only if I  had to. I missed a bunch of my daughters  growing up  . Although Iam not running marathons  I am walking better I can walk about a block. I went shopping for the first time in two or three years a xmass. . I had a RNY the only pain i experienced was in recovery it was the gass they use to blow u up so they can acess your stomach . the next day I had drugs and I got out the next. day. I had very little pain. more a little uncomfortable when I got up. was not on any pain meds  I would say with in a week no pain . about a month 6 weeks I could sleep on my stomach, no infection. The only side effect is I can burp a 12 year old boy under the table, constipation and tooting. I wish u luck. I will say a prayer for u and if u have any question feel free to contact me . Sorry about the spelling not my stronge suite.   Take care

Don't beat yourself up.  If losing weight were easy for you then you wouldn't be having this surgery.

I notice you mentioned sodas.  You should really work on weening yourself off of them because you can NOT have them post-op.  You'll be going through enough changes without caffiene withdrawl too.

Try adding some protein shakes into your diet.  Cut out bad carbs.  Eat lean meat and good veggies.

Congrats on your surgery!  and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

I really appreciate all of your advice, it is so wonderful to be able to talk to people who actually know how you feel.  I have no one here that really knows, they love me and try to understand but I am thankful they don't know.  I wouldn't wish this problem on my worst enemy.  I have really been trying the last couple of days.  I am not perfect but doing better than before.  Again, thanks for your advice and most of all your prayers.
