HUbby said he would buy me a peice of exercise equiptment for our home.  I dont know though.  I had a big loud bulky tredmill a long time ago and hated it.  I am no good at machines in the first place but it was SO loud.  My doc mentioned an eleptical machine too.  Does anyone have something they love?  A brand or even just a type?  I really need to figure out what to do exercise wise, because it is SO important.  But am not really an exercise lover.  I guess hubby thinks it would be easier if I had something at home then having to go to a gym.  HELP?!?!?!  Thoughts?

Personally I love my recumbant bicycle.  I get bored easily so it allows me to read while pedaling.  Unfortunately, I have problems with my right knee, so the bike doesn't like me so much.

I'd suggest a 2 week trial membership to a gym and you can check out the equipment to see what you like.

I do NOT like ellipticals and they are hit or miss for a lot of people. I find the motion akward and my feet go numb. My husband loves it though so its really variable. If you consider buying one make sure you have used one a few times first and like it.  I had a recumbent bike and it was great when I was very large but once I got to where I could do other things I found it pretty boring.

Personally I like treadmills and treadclimbers but if I had one in my home I am afraid it would end up pretty dusty. If I had to pick a piece for home though it would probably be the treadclimber because you don't have to go fast to get a major workout.

How about a Wii Fit? Won't take up much space and it is FUN!

I absolutely love, love, love my elliptical.  THe first time I got on one, I could only do 3 minutes and I thought I was gonna die.  Now, I do at least 60-90 minutes a minimum of 5 days per week.  You can change your stride length and resistance levels or even customize your workout to target certain areas so you can actually change your workout intensity as you get stronger.

I have a recumbent bike I currently use.  I adjust the tension to make it more difficult for me.  I am in need of knee replacement surgery and have difficulty walking, so my bike give me some form of exercise.  I have the old type exercise bike, treadmill, and Nordic-track all in the garage.....  The Nordic-track was not for me, I would need to bungee cord my self on, just to stay on the darn thing and if I could stop laughing long enough to even give it a try !        As the other suggested, try all machines at your local gym and see what works best for you.

I am an elliptical gal myself, and there are 3 different types of them at the YMCA.  There is one that is very uncomfortable for me because of the stride.

If you tend to get bored easily, you may want to consider a gym membership.  The YMCA is a very reasonable choice, and if you have kids, there are programs that they can participate in as well.

Our has an indoor pool, cardio room weight training, pilates, yoga, group fitness, basketball court, handball court, raquetball court, steam room, sauna and hot tub.  My family membership is $69 a month.  I make myself get up in the morning to go.  I hate it every morning, but when I am done with my workout, I feel so awesome.
