Feeling GOOD!!
OK, at the age of 57 and at 340 lbs I got highlights in my hair for the first time. They are gorgeous, Darling. I dye my hair red (my son has red hair, so that gave me an excuse), but it was looking kind of flat. Today my hairdresser added blonde highlights. It's so cool. NEXT time we are adding LOWLIGHTS too - whatever those are. She did the foil stuff and everything. I sat and read a People magazine and drank coffee which they brought to me. It felt GOOD. When I first went to this salon I felt kind of out of place as it is a tad upscale, but I just kept going back and made friends with my hairdresser. Now I feel good going there.
I also ordered and received today some new perfume. It's Eternity by Calvin Klein and it smells GOOD. I'm so hot. Unfortunately, my husband of 36 yrs sniffed my arm and wrinkled his nose when I asked him to smell the new perfume. Then I asked him how he liked my hair and he said, "it looks the same as it always does." Bummer. But I am used to his total lack of enthusiasm about life and me in particular. He cleans the bathroom and does the laundry and keeps coming home, so that's something. Whenever he tries to burst my bubble, I just tell myself: "you can't get blood from a turnip and I can't get a compliment from my husband!"
Anyway, I'm challenging you guys to so something nice for yourself too. Let me know what it is. We've got to be nice to ourselves while we're working so hard on the weight thing. If we don't enjoy the journey, we might give up and go back to our old former carb consuming selves.
I'm thinking I want to try a pedicure but I'm not sure I want anyone massaging my swollen ankles. I've never had one of those. I'd probably have to shave my legs too.......Jury is still out on that one.

Food is for sissies. REAL women exist on skim milk, protein powder, broth and air..... 
LOL!! you are getting a pedicure to have sex? hmmm maybe I should try that on my boyfriend, tell him I must have one if he wants sex LOL

Go for the pedicure...I wouldn't go for the longest time because i wouldn't fit in the chair with the arms down. But now I have lost enough that i fit like regular people so I go all the time. Before I just got my nails done, now i get everything done. Life is Great!!!

I love the idea you are pampering yourself! You GO girl!!! Highlights are fun, and lowlights just mean they dye some of the hair darker - really makes it have depth - - really nice. I have highlights and lowlights and I love them. You can't even tell when my hair is growing out. I'm glad you enjoy your beauty salon experience - that's what it is for! My sister is a stylist and loves to have her clients feel good about themselves. You deserve it!

Hey, I'm thinking pedicure to impress the ladies in chair yoga class, but sex would be another reason to have a pedicure!!! You all are funny. I'm not positive I'd enjoy having someone mess with my feet, but I'm thinking I might try.
So lowlights are dark and highlights are light. That makes sense. I need to have a hairdo that I like by next Labor Day when my son gets married. I can't decide how red to have the base color so I'll experiment all year. I'm glad I found a place that makes me feel pampered rather than self conscious. I suspect the change has occured within ME rather than the salon. I did some counselling with a social worker and got a little more self acceptance going. Sure makes life easier!!!

Just last week I had my first pedicure, to celibrate losing 50 lbs. Well it was awosme. However, next time I will plan something like that and not do it spare of the moment. My legs where swollen, hairy and I was wearing the wrong kind of shoes. Oh well I didnt let any of that slow me down, or keep me from trying something new. I got bright RED toe nails now and by the way I left the mall with my shoes it my hands so the whole world could see what I had done. It was just so relaxing, and out of my normal range of comfort. Well enough about me, Im sure you look wonderful, red is such a pretty color.

Ruby Ellen - I must say that I really do enjoy your posts. You are so cheerful and friendly. You are going to be such a success and you will look fab at your son's wedding. I am about your age, actually 54 years old, so I can relate to so much of what you have to say.
Your hair sounds so awesome! I've always wanted red hair but thought I would look bad with it, but I LOVE red hair :) Maybe after surgery and some weight I will go for it :)
Tonight, instead of staying home with my 2 year old, DH is staying home with the boy and I am going to a friends house for some paper crafting! I am so excited and can't wait! I am going to work on fall cards which I do every year :)
