Another Newbie
Hi, I've been lurking for a while and I've decided to join the action. (hope I can keep up! LOL)
I had RNY on Sept. 28 so I'm about a week and a half post-op. Got my staples out on Monday and the doc is pleased with my progress. I feel really blessed that I have had no complications so far and that I feel really good so far.
Can't wait to get to know everyone!
Mary

I've been trying to lose weight since I was 7 years old. When I got married (almost 20 years ago!!) I lost 50 pounds with Weigh****chers and kept it off for about 5 or 6 months. That was my one success with weight loss. I've done everything from Atkins to Nutri-System to Medifast to PhenFen. You name it, I've probably done it.
I went back and forth on doing WLS because my sister has struggled with her RNY, but after 3-4 years of research I decided it was my best chance to drop the weight and keep it off.
I started with a BMI of 60 and was at 59 at the time of my surgery. As of this morning I've lost 34 pounds between the 2 week liquid diet and the surgery. I'd lost 5 before I started the liquid diet.
I'm married with 2 girls (13 and 11) who I educate at home and I'm a photographer (work on photos while the girls are doing their independent schoolwork). I coach a homeschool cheerleading squad and cart my kids back and forth to dance classes, volleyball practice and cheerleading practice. I have 3 dogs of varying mixed breeds (all rescues) and one evil kitty who lives outside because she thinks clean laundry is her personal litterbox. I live in Southwest Missouri where the trees are just beginning to blaze orange and red, and the crisp air is sweater-weather perfect.
So now you know all about me!

Mary
Oh, GOOD introduction. You seem to have a really interesting life. I am a quilter and I love to make cards. I have no art training, but I love "artsy" stuff like your photography or anything with lots of color in it.
I started out at a BMI of 59 also. I'm still pre op, but hope to have surgery soon. I live in Columbia, MO so we are close. Yes, Missouri is beautiful this time of year. I went to nursing school in Springfield and graduated from Drury. My kids are grown and halfway around the world - literally. My son is in Seoul and my daughter lives in LA.
I hope you do well with your sugery. If you saw your sister struggle, you are aware of some pitfalls to avoid. With me it's all about keeping my mood positive enough to want to TRY. I have plenty of knowledge, but my motivation comes and goes. Generally speaking, though, I'm less critical of myself and more kind to myself as I've aged and this is helpful.
Hope to hear from you some more. Good luck. Stay strong.
