Restaurant eating

Well I just survived my first function at a restaurant and with many people that did not know I have had surgery.  All in all I feel it was a smashing success!!  I have to admit though I am not used to so many "white lies".  You don't like salad?  No  (Reality:  I am in stage 4 puree and moist foods, no veggies for me yet!)  You arn't hungry?  Well, if it wasn't just Thanksgiving a few days ago.....  (Reality:  I was comfortably full, ate about 1/3 of chicken parmesan.  Boy those restaurant portions are freaking HUGE!)  I never was one who asked for a doggie bag, and let's face it in the past there wasn't a whole lot I would leave on a plate to make it worthwhile! HA HA!!!!  Now, I got me some lunch and dinner tomorrow.  Cool!  Was my guy's mom's birthday party at a restaurant his sister chose.  Kind of swanky and chick parm was just about all I would have eaten on the menu anyway.  Not a fish person and don't like creams and sauces drizzled on things, not too mention gosh knows how many calories are there.)

But the good thing was some people I only see in a blue moon actually noticed I had lost a lot of weight.  It was nice to have people who don't know I had surgery actually notice.  One thing I have learned, it seems like when you are really big you have to lose a good 60 to 80 pounds before people really start to notice.

But so I am pretty happy with my new sleeve stomach these days.  Still not really hungry since surgery.  I can hardly eat a thing and I am totally full and satisfied.  Aint preop life WONDERFUL!

Hope everyone is feeling good this post Thanksgiving weekend.

PS:  Don't want to jinx myself but I think my 2 week stall has finally come to an end.  I was down 2 pounds this a.m.  but I won't record a weight change until I see if this holds up.  I am ready to start melting some more.

Glad it went well at the restaurant. It's nice once you get to the point where you can go out with normal-stomached people and not stand out a whole lot.

Even 8 months out, I don't eat more than a bite of salad unless that's my meal.

The bread is my nemesis. We went out to the Descanso Gardens down in Los Angeles (the camellias were actually in bloom -- so beautiful!). Anyway, we had a cranky, hungry 3-year-old and her Papa and it was 4 p.m.. The restaurant we ended up in was Italian. I normally don't touch the bread until after I've eaten some protein, but I had a couple bites before my food got there. All of it was so good. And I had chicken ravioli with ricotta cream sauce for lunch today.

Hope your stall is broken.

Sounds like a resounding success at the restaurant, Donna. Nice to have some positive attention and nice to NOT have to scarf down the entire restaurant portion of food. This is why we have surgery! I'm happy for you.

I bought myself some really cool little plastic containers with tight lids for eating out because I don't like those styrofoam thingies. I keep 2 of them in my car at all times so I can tote morsels of food back home to eat the next day. I seem to have a small container obsession at the moment, but it's a fairly harmless obsession.
Food is for sissies. REAL women exist on skim milk, protein powder, broth and air.....

Good Job Donna.. those little white lies are ok.. nobodys business that you dont want it to be.. but people are so naturally curious and ask too many personal questions most of the time.. so every now and then a littel white lie may be necessary..

I am proud of how you handled it and what you did with the eating.. great job.. eating out is very hard on any diet much less this where you cant eat too much.. you made a great choice and had extra meals to boot.. kudos...

I know what you mean about needing to loose so much before people notice.. it wasnt until I had lost over 60 lbs before any of the neighbors even noticed.. But I still can't see it.. I know that makes you feel so good when people tell you how good you look and that you have lost so much weight since they have seen you last.. Those compliments will continue to come.. get used to them...

I hope your stall is over too.. Sometimes when we diet real stict and then break that cycle our bodies say hey I ahve to start speeding up she is going to eat junk again.. face it restaurant food is not the healthiest.. we try to choose good things but they are high in sodium and fat and not much we can do about that when we eat out.. Many times when I would get stuck on my preop diet I would go to a restaurant and eat a meal.. not a big fatty one but a normal meal,, and sure enough a few days later the stall was over.. so maybe the eating out and having to tell little white lies paid off.. maybe it broke that stall for you..

I am just 2 weeks out. I am not feeling the full thing yet.. so I am carefully measuring.. can't wait until I can actually say I am full...

hugs to you..
