Let's Start Talkin'
Hi Shelley,
I read your profile and can remember thinking that no one else was going through what I was going through and that no one really understood my struggles. I was isolated, sick and depressed. I accidently stumbled onto ObesityHelp.com and cried when I discovered there was million of people dealing with the same issues as me. I just want you to know that you are not alone and that we do understsand. I wish you the best in your journey and I will be praying that you receive the approval you are waiting for.

Hi Georgeann,
I have to tell you that I cried too when I first starting reading profiles here. To know, really for the first time, that there are other people out there who do understand has been so healing for me. I, honest to goodness, felt so ashamed and alone in this struggle. I never imagined that other people were dealing with these same issues. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. I usually get that we're all human and go through pretty similar struggles, but obesity issues just seemed totally different to me. I guess it is probably the shame that keeps us isolated and afraid to share what we are going through.
What kills me is the idea that obese people are somehow to blame for their situation and shouldn't really expect to be treated with the same dignity other people with illness can expect. The very idea that we sometimes have to beg for WLS is the perfect example of how our struggles are seen as somehow "less than". Thank you so much for your prayers. I sure need them. I will keep you in mine as well, and I am going to read your profile tonight. Take gentle care.- Shelley
Howdy!
I had my DS with a BMI of 75, which I guess makes me a 'super' heavyweight. I spend a lot of time on the DS forum here at OH, and I've noticed there are several OHIP patients there also. You might want to post there as well---I know that some folks 'beat' the usual wait-time by requesting the DS instead of the RNY, thereby getting approval to go outside Canada for surgery. Apparently there aren't any DS surgeons locally available.
