My name is Tresa. My Bmi is around 53. I'm hoping to have surgery in late Aug. or early Sept. Insurance frustration has led me to self pay, and it is great to have a place to post questions that can be related to.

greetings tresa i'm 6 months post op -- starting bmi was 66.4. i also went the self-pay route. once i decided i wanted to do this, i didn't want to wait while i did the 6 or 12 or whatever number of months of doctor supervised diet my insurance co required. and it's been money well spent! best of luck to you. deb -150

we're practically neighbors! one of my great-aunts lived in van wert for many, many years. she's around 90, and lives in a retirement home in fort wayne now.

Hi! When I started this WLS journey, my BMI was 49.8, so that's close enough to 50! I wish you the best. I am almost 20 months post-op, & now weigh 180#. Good luck!! Grace

Hi Tresa, I was self pay too and it was the best money I ever spent!! We used to joke that my surgery cost the same thing as my husband's dream car... a Lexus.... so now I'm the dream car, he calls me Lexie!!! Be sure to take your medical deductions from your taxes... that will help a lot!!! MY friend actually put her cost on a 0 interst credit card and earned enough air miles to go to Mexico where she strutted herself around Cancun in a bathing suit!!! After the year of free interest, she took out a home equity loan to pay off the card and now she has even more of a deduction because of interest!!! Be smart... make it work for you!!!
