can't get around
Ok "Needin" ... I'll sound in here too ... for the last 15 years pre-op I fought a failing back, had back surgery (failed), and watched my weight climb to an all time high of 430 lbs. The last three years have been spent virtually in my house, unable to walk without a cane much more than 15 or so feet at a time, unable to shop for my needs, losing a 32 year career, becoming more and more handicapped and finally ending up on disability. I was hopeless too. I think I was just waiting to die. And I know what you mean by trying to be "invisible".
Finally, finally, my PCP suggested I have WLS after having been against it for so many years. Put simply he said I wouldn't be walking at all in a year and WOULD die if I didn't get my weight off. He referred me to a surgeon and that started the ball rolling for me. Took a solid 14 months to get approval and surgery, but on March 30th my NEW life began. Surgery complications added 12lbs of fluid to my body, so now I have an all time high weight of 442 lbs. That was 4 months and 14 days ago. As of this morning I weigh 344 lbs. I'm TWO POUNDS away from 100 lbs lost. This surgery is a miracle. My cane is in the closet, I can walk three square blocks (adding that 4th block soon), I'm in a water aerobics class 3 times a week (and love it!), I'm off all my meds except one and I have my life back.
Everyone has to make their own decision about this surgery, so we can only give you our experiences. I SO hope they help you and that you will be ok and I send hope and blessings your way.
