Back to work in only ONE week?????
A sister just had surgery last week and is already back to work!
I just can't believe it!!!!
I can't even get around well enough to have a job let alone be up and around like that in only one week! I thank God for this Messageboard. I think most on here can relate to what I'm feeling. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others....just walk my walk..I might do better than what I'm anticipating!

cindy,
OMGoddess! She must be a superwoman. The only way I could go back to work right now is if I could wheel my sofa into the office. Sad but true
I see your date is coming up. I go for my physician consult tommorrow. I totally understand about not comparing yourself to anyone else. That could make you
.
This is such a hard journey to make, let alone making it harder for ourselves.

Take care and keep us posted please!
Bridget
I had a part time sit down position before and after surgery.
I went back on night 13. I had to show my staples to everyone and I was tired, but was glad to be back.
Today, at 13 months out I am down 200 pounds and have 2 jobs!
I will get weary if I don't get in my protein and some coffee.
I could not have gone back to an 8 hour job. No way. Not then.
Blessings,
~Tina~
Cynthia,
Everyone's experience is different. Myself, I went back to work 6 days after surgery. That doesn't mean everyone can or should. I knew that I couldn't take any more time off so I had myself psyched up before surgery that I didn't have time to slow down. I walked like a mad woman at the hospital (I have mobility problems too as I started this journey at 499 pounds and was 453 the morning of surgery... have had a broken knee, ankle, and foot in the past 18 months... have osteoarthritis in several areas and have fibromyalgia... so I know about having a hard time getting around. At the hospital I was actually in much less pain than I am used to on a daily basis since I had the morphine PCA... wish I could have that sucker all the time LOL!!!!! So, I was actually able to be up and around right after surgery better than I am on a regular basis... wierd, I know!
I was in the hospital two nights and when I came home I made sure that I went out and did something every day. Yes, I was tired but again, I knew that I only had a total of 6 days to be off so I really pushed myself. I know this isn't the route that is most desired by surgeon's and it isn't a pace that everyone can go at but I knew that I HAD to. I know other people who aren't ready to go back to work after 6 weeks... everyone's experience is different but I do believe that between psyching myelf up for what I had to do and ALOT of prayer, it worked for me. Between work and school I am out of the house for 69 hours a week (plus driving time) so I have a very hectic schedule that I have to keep up. Am I tired at the end of the day... yeppers... some nights we get home at 10:00 and I go pee and then straight to bed just to wake up and do it all over again. I have been told that I am "superwoman" and that isn't the case at all... I just have to do what I have to do for our current situation and always remember that it will all be worth it when my husband and I reach our current goals health-wise and professionally.
Good luck on your surgery and know that everyone's story is different and that it is easy to compare ourselves to others but our journey is not the same as anyone else's. Just do what you need to do to make it work for YOU!
Blessings!
Patti
Thank you so much for sharing, Patti. I am amazed!
YOU really are superwoman!
It has really helped me to be able to at least be willing to shoot for a higher goal of myself. I pictured myself being down for three weeks at least!
But after hearing from all of you, I realize that maybe it won't be soooo bad.
You've all been a real encouragement! Thank You!

I had open RYN on July 25th.I am lucky to be a teacher so school didn't start until August 22nd. So I went back 4 weeks to the day of surgery. The surgeon preferred 6 weeks but I have few sick days left. My first week back is done, and I really could have used the extra two weeks. I am extremely tired and unable to stand for long periods. I have stacks of new text books in boxes all over the room. The kids have been helping me unpack.
My biggest problem is lunch. We are scheduled for a full half hour, but by the time we get the children settled and get down to the faculty room we have about 20. Then there is the wait for the microwave. So I either
eat too fast or don't get done. Oh well.
I think your return to work depends on what you do, your comorbidities, and your condition after surgery. And of course, what you do for a living.
Take the time you need.
