I want to kill my family doctor!

i called my family doctor yesterday, because medicare needs a PCP letter from him. Well THEY DONT NEED TO HAVE 6 MONTHS WEIGHT LOSS DOCUMENTED IN HIS CHARTS! although i have been going to him for 6 years for weight loss he doesnt have it charted anywhere. All medicare needs his is referral and psych eval. Well when i called yesterday his wife say she is faxing right now. They call today (after my surgeons office is closed) and tells me that he wants me to see their dietain so they can have it documented in there records. Well i ask if they faxed the letter and they said NO that he wanted to see me before hand. I dont know if he means for 6 months or just this one time I so angry i could cry. If he messes up and i have to wait 6 months before i can send this to insurence im going to give him a ear full he should have been keep recond the last 6years that i have been going to him. anyone got any advice? Marlena, Please dont your doc!! HERE I'll do it for you!!!! Dont these people realize that when they place even more demands on us, or lose our paperwork, or dont return phone calls, or make the hoops we have to jump through even bigger that they are messing with OUR LIVES???????? By the time its all over we will all be take care and good luck!

Marlena, I worked for doctors for 32 years and it's amazing what they don't think to actually chart. With the multitude of pt lawsuits there are now, I would imagine your PCP is now wanting to see you to make doubly sure, meaning if he's going to put his signature to something he wants to make sure there's no margin for error to be laid at his door later on. As well, if he's not had a direct discussion with you about "referring" you for surgery, he may be wanting that formal note in before records are sent. I would be as angry as you about 6 years worth of care with no documentation for your surgery, but be sure and flip the whole thing over to see if maybe they want you to see their dietician first in order to bolster any information to be sent before you give him an earful. If it turns out you really have a careless physician who's stalling your efforts on purpose, you need to change physicians fast. The frustration this surgery causes pre-op (for me) was waaaaaaaay worse than my recovery and the changes to my life post-op. I waited 14 months for approval through two insurances and jumped through so many hoops I was ready to give up. Before it was finally approved I thought they (meaning the "collective" they we all blame when thing's are hard) might have me stand on one foot and twirl around while patting my head with one hand and spinning a plate with the other while singing "Jeramiah was a Bullfrog"! (A stupid analogy, I know, but some of the hoops to jump through seemed downright petty and silly sometimes ... and I was hoping to put a smile on your face with that ... did it work?) Sheesh!! I hope this works out for you, Marlena. I have been experiencing some of the same kind of stuff with my PCP. Let's just say she really is a lovely person, but maybe not the most informed doctor I've ever met. I have been so frustrated at times that I have gone out to the car and broken into sobbs. I must have called and visited her 30 times to ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist between June 2002 and July 2005. I finally saw the Endo in July 2005, three full years after I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Her secretary just kept giving me the run around and saying yes she would fax the referral, but they just never got around to it. I was in utter amazement at this incompetence, but there is a doctor shortage right now in Ontario, and I could not find a new doc who was taking patients, so there was not a thing I could do, but wait for them to get it together. Things are finally moving along now because I have been on them lies flies on sh** constantly. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and I am so sorry you have to have this crap going on. Hey guys good news. Turns out he was just lazy lol the had started a new file on me and didn't have what he needed in that file so he wanted to see me to get a copy in that file... What do you guys think was he just wanting a office visit fee? to write the letter????? Maybe i seem to think so lol Im not complaining thow he's sending letter tomorrow!
