Female Question

Hi guys hope everyone is having a good day. My question is: After surgery do you automatically start your monthly cycle???? I have and IUD and have not had a period in 2 years(and doc says its ok). So being that it's been so long I have nothing in my house for this problem and was wondering if I should go out and stock up for this potential situation. Thanks for all of your help. Anita

I take a shot every 3 months and I got some just in case and I needed them for a day or 2 I have not had a monthly cycle in over 3 years hope this helps shelley 458/395/???/210

My period has always been normal, like clockwork (except when I was on Depo-Prevera and did not get it at all). It did not change at all with surgery. I got mine right on time, 1 week post-op. However, I have heard a lot of women say that there's started right after surgery, even when they had not had a period for some time, and some who had there's come early, as a friendly welcome out of surgery gift. So, my advice to you would be to be prepared! Carrie

hey anita. you wouldn't like my solution. haven't had sex since surgery. that's a very long six months. can't really answer the question, either. dh was snipped so many years ago i can't remember when it was. hope you find an answer, though. take it easy. dorthe

Hi Anita, Here is an answer for you. I hadnt had a period for 9 years. One week after surgery, it appeared. It was very light, and I wasnt sure what it was since it was so long, but like riding a bike, I figured it out shortly. It did last long, and have had one about 3 times since, and its been a year. It isnt bad, not heavy, but it came back. It was a minor nusiance considering what I went thru, so just be prepared just in case. Good luck, Sue

OH MY GOD...... I wanted to ask this same question, but I was too Thank you Anita.....But I have to give my $0.02, if I may..... I have an IUD also, and before I got it, I had a period twice a year, May and December for 6 years. Now that I have this IUD, my period came like clock work and I mess up every piece of clothing that I have in the 3 days that I am on. I mean it had gotten so heavy, that I thought I was hemorrhaging. And then it stopped, for a year. It's back and Now, I have been on for the WHOLE month of August and it looks like it is never going to end. I have went thru, 12 bags of 48 count stayfree dry max, and I am tired. I have been to the dr. and she tells me that since I am losing weight,(mind U I am still Pre-op) my body is changing and that I am losing the weight in my stomach, giving my uterus space, therefore having my menstrual. She said that it will go away, just give it some time. But at this point, I feel like ripping it out myself,(uterus and IUD) but I am too because I don't want to get pregnant before or after surgery. (venting, SORRY) So the moral to the story is, once you have the surgery and start losing weight, you may just get your period again. One of the side effects of the IUD, is heavy bleeding, so I would stockup. You maybe like me, once you lose some weight, everything starts to go back to normal and flow will really start flowing. Play it safe and stock up. God, I hope you don't have the problems that I am having, BUT it beats getting pregnant. Hi to all, Let me get in on this female question stuff. My period hasn't come for over 3 months now. I wanted to put that problem "on hold" so to spea****il after I get approved or after I have my WLS. Like many of you, I have PCOS and hyper-plazia and just irregular stuff---abnormal is the norm for me. I broke down and went to the OBGYN. I am not prego (thank you) and I am not in medapose either. The doctor told me that because of my obesity, my body just refused to comply with nature. I had an ultra-sound done. I was told that not having a cycle each month and being overweight puts me in a catagory of higher cancer of the endometrium. He wants me to have a biopsy done to check..but in the mean time...lose weight.....duh???? this is a guy who is tall, slender and hikes the Arizona mountains for "recreation??" He also won't write me a letter of reccommendation because, after all, all surgery is life-threatning and we all know the proper way to lose weight right???? Anyways, I still want to wait till after my WLS to get into this other part of my body that needs fixin'-----pluuuuuulllllezzzzz, if you are a guy reading this, I appologize, I have definately embarrassed my family and all my future posterity by responding to this post already.....You men out there are sooooooo lucky you don't have these complications to deal with...oh yeah, I guess you do if you are married........let's not go there right??? I'm going to add a question about the same topic. My surgeons told us any women not wanting children Post-op should be on birthcontrol because wls increase your feritlity has anyone else heard this?

Marlena, Yes-yes-yes-yes it is true!!! First of all our fertility changes over the years for many different reasons but..yes I guess once your body starts functioning "normal" again all kinds of things can "break-loose" if you know what I mean. I don't know the medical terms to prove the increase of fertility of WLS but it definately is true!!! Hope this is "good news" to most of you gals out there---not me, I'm closer to being a grandma than to a new mom (my youngest is almost 16--if you know what I mean) Take care.
