Aveage Weight Loss?
Marlena,
I lost 45 pounds the first month. Some lose less, some more. I read a post from a man (I think he was about 450) who lost 67 pounds in 3 weeks. They told me at the surgeon's office that the average is 8-12 a month for the first 12-18 months, but most lose a lot more the first couple months.
Good luck,
Carrie
Hello Marlena,
I started out with a BMI of 62.
It varies from month to month.
It took me about 4 months to lose 100 pounds.
This is what I've lost the last 5 months.
April - lost 21 pounds
May - lost 17 pounds
June - lost 19 pounds
July - lost 11 pounds
Aug. - lost 12 pounds
Have a great day.

I was 365 (BMI 54) going into my RNY. I had some big complications which added to my weightloss the first month and brought a second surgery a amonth to the day of my RNY. I lost just over 60 pounds that first month, but regained about 16 from fluid after I had that second surgery. That 16 fell off, plus another 27 the second month. I lost 100 pounds in about three and a half months. and the rest of the weight crawled off and stopped altogether at about 9 months, when I developed another complication which caused an 80 pound regain (OH was NOT a helpful place to come during that time!) over six months and required an additional surgery. The 80 pounds pretty much fell off and I hovered between 190 and 205 going into my first round of reconstructive surgery.
How much do I wiegh now? I'm clueless! LOL I haven't been weighed in ages, wasn't even weighed before my two rounds of plastic surgery!
I'm shrinking from the reconstructive surgery though! Talk about rapid, extreme, dramatic weightloss! Wow!
Nicole,
You sure have had quite a time on this wls journey!
When was your actual surgery? You have really been through the mill.
So glad you are back to the board now..a few of us pre-ops could really learn from your wls expertise!!
I'm all for being on the shrinking side..thanks for leading the way!!!

Hi Virginia!
My open distal RNY was May 28, 2002 (I have no idea why OH has it listed as the 27th - that was Memorial Day! LOL).
I think I've had a pretty unconventional wls journey. I didn't want to count carbs or guzzle protein, I didn;t want to watch what I ate constantly. I had a lifetime of that. When I saw my surgeon, I told him these things. To me, doing that meant dieting, and I wanted to stop that stupid dieting madness. he totally understood, told me I might not drop to 145 if I ate what I wanted, but he got it!
I wanted to be healthy, comfortable, and feel "normal". I come from a long line of super MO people. I also have two kids who I wanted to spare from the dieting way of life. If I had wls, and I was dieting, what kind of message was I sending them?
I cannot keep pasta or rice down, cereal and ice cream always come up too. But, as I type this, I am eating regular black licorice and enjoying it!
I hope you have a terrific journey too!
