I am new to the message board here and LOVE it!! I have been reading all of Ya'lls( georgia slang, excuse me lol) messages and it makes me feel so welcome. I am learning so much also. I have an appointment with my Dr. Duncan out of Atl the 20th of this month!! YEAH!! can't wait.. I am wanting lap RNY... Hope so anyway. I weigh almost 400lbs and am five ft five. Im fourty five years old this last month and have had enough trying with no success. I have lost and gained more pounds than peaches growing in ga.. So have made the desicion to have this surgery with praise and worry from my three girls (grown) and husband but know THIS is it for me. So the journey begins...... margaret..

Hello and welcome to the boards! I've only been here around 2 week and I love it! I'm new to this adventure too. I am 20 years old, 5'8" and *gasps* 553lbs. I'm tired of being tired and all that stuff. Welcome to the board and keep us updated on your journey! Dannielle

You might want to look into the DS as well---many medical professionals think it's the best choice for those of us with a starting BMI greater than 50, and it has the very best stats for long-term, maintained weight-loss. Dr. Duncan doesn't do the DS, but Dr. Dennis Smith in GA does.

WELCOME!! Glad to see you made it here... Maybe we'll be making our "change of life" around the same time... I'm kinda in limbo until my insurance network gets figured out (hurricane Katrina temporarily wiped out my entire medical network).... Congrats on your decision to become healthy! Don't let people who are "well meaning" try to push you in the direction THEY think is right for you. Do your homework, and know the risks/benefits of each surgical type... the common complications and the frequencies of the complications... and THEN decide for yourself... not because someone *tells* you which THEY THINK is better. Opinions are like rear ends... everyone has one Good Luck
