Hey Sipele!
I have a bmi of 80 and have to diet down to a 70 before surgery in Dec. this is a loss of about 70lbs. It seems daunting at times but then again... I know how badly I need this surgery and I don't want any complications. Some surgeons I contacted had huge co-pays or demanded you attend several weeks of support groups as a pre-op even though they are in another city several miles away!! One place wanted me on a full liquid diet at the cost of $900.00 a month for 6 MONTHS!!!
So I see this as losing 5lbs a week and being the most do-able plan I've seen yet. I have stopped drinking soda and noticed a HUGE improvement already. My legs are no where near as swollen and red... plus my blood sugar has been on the normal side... NOW I need to exercise more and I'll have this going on LOL
I think those of us with higher BMI's have more co-morbidities and other issues and I am so blessed to have found this board and all of you!!!!
Look forward to hearing from ya!!!
I would like to thank all of you for your overwhelming support. As all of you know I am new to these boards and I cannot believe the wonderful response I have received. I want you all to know that in the next day or so I will be looking over your profiles and I will try to respond to each of you. Again, thank you all so very much. I have felt so alone in this... until now. God Bless ALL OF YOU!
Hello, welcome to the board!
Upon my initial orientation at St. Mary's (Evansville, IN) I discovered my BMI was 84.1 and I weighed *GASPS* 553lbs. I nearly died, but I was there for help and things looked hopeful. Boy, was I wrong. They went on to tell me that I needed to loose 150lbs before they would operate. COME ON PEOPLE!!! If I could loose that why would I need their help, right?
Then someone on this board recommended my a doctor in Nashville who's operated on people near 700lbs. They are going to do mine!
My advice is don't give up sweetie, no matter what! You may have to travel a bit to find someone you are comfortable with and who will work with you, but when you find them it'll be amazing and well worth the wait!
Best of luck, and if you wanna chat feel free to EMAIL me!
Love,
Dannielle
