Congratulations Marlena! I remember how ecstatic I was when I found out I was approved. Consider these "what ifs" - WHAT IF you didn't have the surgery? Would you be able to lose the weight? And WHAT IF you didn't lose the weight? What would your life be like? Would you be healthy? Would you be happy with yourself? It can be frightening to make the decision to go through with it, but the alternatives were just as frightening to me, if not more so. You'll do great; hope you get that surgery date soon! Good Luck, Tanja

Hi Tanja, I agree with your previous post about the "what if's" on this WLS journey. Did you have your surgery yet? Anyway, I agree with you on this one! you rock! Huggs--Virginia

Hi Virginia, I'm glad you agree with me about the "what ifs"... I had them, but I weighed my options carefully. I just knew in my heart (and my head, actually) that if I didn't have the surgery, I wouldn't be able to lose the weight on my own and keep it off. Sure I had lost weight before, but I was never able to keep it off, and I always gained even more back. I'm sure most people can relate to that. But I decided I was willing to risk the chance of dying on the table more than I was willing to continue just existing in my extremely obese body, being extremely unhappy and unhealthy. If I hadn't had the surgery (yes, I did have it on May 31, 2005), I can only imagine that I would have continued to gain weight, which would most likely lead to a premature death. I thought to myself, "I'm not going to go without a fight; if I should happen to die on the table, at least I will have died trying." And... I made it, and I'm on my way to a new life. Take Care, Tanja

Hey Congratulations on your approval The what if's will get you down if you let them I know from previous personal experience. I agree with the above posts on the what if you don't have surgery, what if you don't lose weight etc. etc. Take care and keep us posted on your date. Anita
