Hey, calling all post-ops...
I have a question.....When you got home from the hospital, were you able to sleep in bed or did you have to sleep in a recliner? If in a recliner, for how long? I had to sleep in a recliner for two years before I got my C-PAP machine; I hate to go back to sleeping in one. I love sleeping in my bed, but I know it takes A LOT of effort for me to roll or turn over, and I just can't imagine it with stomach surgery. I weigh around 435 right now. Any input would be greatly appreciated! God bless ya' all!
Cynthia,
I had to sleep in my recliner for about 2 weeks.. I tried to sleep in bed but couldnt get comfortable at all. Still now, once in awhile I will wake up and have to go lay in my recliner in order to get some sleep.. But remember everyone is different.. Try the bed and if it doesnt work for you then go to the recliner.. Good luck to you!

Hi Cynthia,
I'm about 4 1/2 months post-op, and yes I did have to sleep in a recliner. After about 2 weeks I was so tired of it and I tried several different beds, but I just couldn't get comfortable. I probably spent 3 1/2 to 4 weeks in the recliner total. After I could sleep in the bed, I couldn't fall asleep. After about 2 months I finally went to the doctor and she put me on trazadone. (I had already tried tylenol pm and benadryl and the both made me more awake!) I'm just sharing this in case you experience this as well. I started out about 396 and I'm down to 304, and my energy level is much better, (only another 100-150 to go!) I wish you all the best on your surgery and if you have any questions, please contact me anytime.

I slept in a bed... it was tough at first because I kept forgetting I had surgery and I am a restless sleeper... turning all over the place. What I did do was purchase one of those long body pillows and I got some other regular sized pillows... at least four and that worked better for me... I like to sleep on my side/stomach so I would roll onto the body pillow and place extra ones where it made me feel more comfortable.
Good luck!

Last night was my first night home so I'm not full of wisdom but here goes anyway! I spent last night in my recliner and my hiney and tummy hurts this morning. But at the same time, I'm not sure I could have gotten down to my bed but I think I will try it tonight just to see if I could spend some time there just to take the pressure off my rear. I also want to use pillows but can't figure where they would work best...under me or beside me. Just don't know.

Hi Willby...
I see you have been busy the past few days....parties and such....and now you're going to squish your dead hubby. Go ahead and squish away. I won't tell.
I'll tell you the truth, I actually feel pretty good. The hardest part was waking up in recovery. I couldn't breathe and it scared them (and me) a little. (I always have trouble coming out of anesthesia)
Other than that, I'm bruised and achey and sometimes whiney but I'm walking and drinking my water and protein. So yes, it was pretty much what I expected (for me). I think everybody's experience is different. But hey, I survived!
Thanks for asking and quit sneaking all that cake!
Peggy
