I just came from Amazon.com and want to buy a book or two on WLS. I am looking for something to tell me about life after surgery and what to expect. I saw some good reviews for a book by Barbara Thompson and some okay reviews for one by Michelle Boasten. There are SOOO many listed that its hard to choose. Then it hit me ask you guys! Thanks in advance Jamie

Hi Jamie, Sorry, I can't help too much, except to say that I bought both of Carnie Wilson's books and read them. Honestly, I wasn't too impressed - yes, they were her experiences that she was writing about, but to me, it sounded as if she thought she knew all there was to know about bariatric surgery, and it didn't seem that she allowed for individual differences (which there are many). To me, it made it seem like her story was the "gospel" in Bariatric surgery experiences. Plus, the first book was mostly about her childhood. That is only my opinion, though. That being said, I would suggest finding a book that is written by a medical professional who has actually gone through the procedure. I'm sure I saw some of those when I was looking on Amazon. Sorry, I can't be of more help. Take Care, Tanja

I've got this one too ... pretty good info in it, and (same as Willby) I've got another that I can't lay my hands on right now that's pretty good. If I find it I'll post the name and author. Myra

Carmella, I'm gonna take you up on that... How was the pain after surgery? How long was it before you started feeling like you could walk, take care of yourself? My husband was Supposed to be my "nurse" but he's chickened out and I'm thinking of asking my grandmother or mother to come help. I hate to though because they'd have to fly all the way out here, why does he have to be such a wuss??!! Any regrets? What have you been eating? I'm sure I'll think of more questions. Do you mind if I email you and ask you when I think of some more? Jamie

Hi Jamie, I have read Barbara Thompson's book"Weight Loss Surgery:Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside You" It tells alot about wls and what to expect pre and post op. The Weight Loss For Dummies repeats alot of what Barbara Thompson's says. Just my FYI Sandra A.

Hi Jamie, The book my surgeons office recommended, and even bought it in bulk so we could get it cheaper is The Success Habis of Weight-Loss Sugery Patients by Colleen M. Cook. Its a great book and I highly recommend it. Good luck, Soos
