I'm starving!
Hi Danielle from Sacramento, KY, I'm Mercy from Sacramento, CA.
I had to go on a pre-op diet. Actually, my very surgery depended on it. One surgeon in the practice already cancelled my surgery date and told me that I had to lose weight to prove to him that I had the mental discipline to do the band.
You didn't say how long you're doing your diet for, but here are some things that helped me along the way:
I always had breakfast. Breakfast gets your metabolism going. I usually had 2 scrambled eggs with cheese, or 1 package flavored instant oatmeal mixed with 1 packet of the regular flavor instant oatmeal.
For lunch I usually heated up 1 can of soup (Progresso was my favorite brand, and their Minestrone was only 4 WW points). Or, I would make myself 2 wraps made with wheat tortillas, mustard (not mayo, too fat), and a lean meat like turkey or ham (4 slices of the very thin turkey is only 2 WW points).
For dinner, I usually had a big salad. All the lettuce I wanted, mixed with some olives, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, maybe some boiled eggs (I liked alot of stuff in my salad). I always topped it off with a grilled breast of chicken (my George Foreman grill was perfect and fast for that), and with a "light" salad dressing.
Between meals I would load up on water. Depending on how long your diet is for, you may want to consider adding a protein shake daily just because.
Was it difficult in the beginning? You bet it was! I rarely ate breakfast in the mornings, choosing to stop for Starbuck's Frappaccinos (loaded with calories), my lunch could include fast food like Nachos Bellgrande, a taco supreme, and 2 burritos, and a large soda from Taco Bell. Dinner was usually some other form of takeout.
During my 4 week diet, I was incredibly strict on myself. No eating out whatsoever. I ate only the meal I prepared ahead of time, and just drank water, and more water. Four weeks later, I did manage to lose 20lbs and got my surgery date. I've lost 113lbs since the start of that diet back in January and I haven't looked back since. All I can say is salad, salad, and more salad. Salad is a good and low calorie filler.
Good luck!
Mercy

Thanks for your help hun. It's nice to see I'm not the only one going through this. I haven't met with the nutritionist but I've been doing my own diet and in 4 weeks lost 14lbs. That's not much, but it's a lot for me! However, here lately I've been staying hungry so I came here for suggestions.
Congratulations on your weight loss and thank you for the input!

Pre-OP
-14lbs
Hi, I'm starting out at 599 Lbs. BMI 76 by what Surgeon says but on
here the computer says 74.6. And I have to do the 6 month diet too.
My Surgeon has told me to do the Atkin's Diet as the Post-Op diet is
very closely the same. But he pointed out he wants me to a Super
Atkin's Diet - NO CARBS AT ALL! Well I'm in heaven, eggs, cheese &
meats. But I still need to watch portains. I eat four to six times a day
at the most four ounces. Plus plenty of water, tea & Crystal lite or
other brands. My Surgeon has said no Protein Shakes to get the protein in by real food. Plus Vitamins.
I only get hungry when I'm not doing anything. So I really think if your into what your doing and drinking the water you'll forget about being hungry.
Keep going you'll make it as this is part of changing your life!!!
I'm doing the South Beach Diet right now, but I'm only eating three times a day on a good day, and then once or twice a day when I work. I stay so busy at work sometimes it's midnight and time to go home before and I still haven't had anything to eat. That, right there, is part of my problem.
My thing is also keeping myself busy. When I'm working I don't eate much at all, however when I'm off it kills me. I've been trying to keep busy with my animals and being outdoors.
Do you have to drink 64oz of water a day? If so what's your secret to getting it all down?
Thanks a bunch!
Dannielle
I did the Atkin's Diet 1 year before surgery and I was never starving on like on lo cal lo fat diets. I know all the controversy on it but my hubby lost 100 pounds on it and I lost 60. And now, post op I am eating lo carb because it suirs me better. And the protein I get from it is a plus, too!! LOL Good luck!!
