Hi Kim... I can only attest to last year when I had my hysterectomy.. When I went in for my pre-admission, the nurse ordered a special for me that was wider and more comfortable than the normal beds... The morning I reported for surgery.... that bed was waiting on me... that is the bed they used to take me to surgery and that's the bed I was returned to for recovery and to my room... As for transfering from bed to the table in the operating room.. I moved over with help of the surgical orderly... but I vaguely remember being jostled awake in moving me from the table to the bed... and the nurses talking about how to situated the bed in the room... I too had a cath... but never really felt it... and they had me up walking on the day after surgery and it was removed on the 3rd day.. Didn't have any problems... Hope this helps some.... Nelle

Ah Kim, you're just a little bitty thing with a BMI of 66. I had a BMI of 82 when I had my band surgery. I worried about all the little things too. I had a class with the actual operating room nurse the week before the surgery and I was able to voice my concerns. When she said the operating table was a narrow one, I freaked. She was very reassuring, said they do this all the time, they are used to SMO and EVERYONE fits on the table. When it came time for surgery, I moved over onto the little table and all was fine. The next thing I remember is waking up in recover on a nice inflatable bed Before the surgery, someone came in to ask if it would be ok if a med studen****ched the procedure, no touching, jus****ching from the corner of the room. I asked is he cute? she said he was very and I asked if there were any more, you know, the more the merrier! The whole thing went so fast I never saw the watcher! The catheter went in while I was out and came out late that night and it wasn't pleasant, but not painful. What I do remember was after getting on the operating table I bent my knees and put the bottom of my feet together (like a frog) which I always do at home cuz it takes the pressure off my back. Well anyway, the nurse says oh good, that's just the position I need you in. Then the anesthesiolist says count back from 10, I got to 8 and then I woke up! I was so nervous having never had any kind of surgery before, never even had stitches or broke a bone as a kid. When talking to my smart ass sister while waiting to go to the or, she says don't worry, they hardly drop anyone! How's that for supportive?? LOL Good luck! Steff
