Hi Everyone, Ok my surgery is November 1st, still several weeks away. Until this week I have been very positive, knowing that my life was going to change and I was going to be a whole new person. Over the last few days, I have felt more and more fear. Fear, not of the actual surgery, but fear that I'm going to be the one who doesn't lose weight or the one who gains it all back. I have been trying to "diet" now before the surgery and I have good days and SUCKY days; I'm having trouble making myself walk and thinking how am I ever going to be motivated to take advantage of this surgery gift I'm being given. OK I'm done rambling - thanks for listening!

Hello....I just wanted to let you know that you should Ramble away, I mean it's what we're here for. I have only just gotten started on researching WLS. I have a friend who had RNY surgery and she was so freaked out from the moment she got her surgery date, I think all anyone can do is take it one day at a time.... I have to tell that self-defeating voice in my head to buzz off at least 10 times a day. You're a strong person and you can do it!!!!

I've tried, I really have and I think thats all they can ask of me. My surgery date is october 24th. i freak out every single day....and then I come onto this board and everyone helps me get over my anxiety. Good Luck!! willby thinsoon

Ohh how diets suck! I was never able to follow a diet for long without a major screw up.. Dont beat yourself up too much for the diet, if any of us were good at diets we wouldnt need this board! As far as finding the motivation to walk after surgery- dont worry about it! At the hospital they will get you up and pretty much force you to walk (or drag you down the hall).. After you start to feel the relief that walking gives you it will get easier. Once your home, feeling better, and on your own you will find yourself walking just because you can!! It doesnt take long to enjoy walking again.. Before surgery it hurt to walk more then a few steps, now I can walk for hours.. Granted its a slow walk, but its still walking. This surgery isnt a free ticket to weight loss- you still have to exercise and diet. but this surgery does help give the will power that we all lack... Dont stress yourself out too much.. Its not exactly a walk in the park, but it is definately worth it!! You will do just fine.. If you need anything just yell.. Amber M

hi cathy: i'm so glad you came on the board and shared your feelings. they are, in fact, totally normal. just try to remind yourself why you decided to do it. in point of fact, after surgery, the 'dieting' is done with. it's really a new way of life. IMHO come back often, cathy. we're all ready and willing to listen and, when we can, help too. hugs dorthe

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!!!!!!! I am one week postop ... but for like the two weeks before my surgery I was having panic attacks... felt like I was having a dang heart attack! What helped me is that every night I would ask my husband what are the three reasons you can think of ... as to why Im getting this surgery. Patiently and somtimes smiling he would tell me them... have babies be healthy not worry about tables or booths at resturants anymore we want to grow old together health problems go to magic mountain and NOT WORRY! walk in yosimite without losing my breath SO MANY ....MORE think about that and when you start panicking ... have someone tell you ... I also had a girlfriend who is 18 months postop so the same and it HELPED SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!! Good luck Steph
