Guess What I Heard?
Hi Willby,
Are you busy this lazy Sunday...pondering the meaning of life or something like that??? This one sounds pretty deep for me, but let's see..If a person (not a dog) has a desire to go for something (insert WLS here) then you will have the momentum to be successful in that thing. I don't know if that is what Oprah meant, I guess it's the "flower-child" deep down inside me, that was never allowed to bloom......anybody else have any ideas???
Virginia
Okay Willby,
"if a dog will fetch a bone, he will carry a bone"
To me it means, "If you make and effort and are determined, then you will see it through."
Hmmm... Makes you think, huh?
Maybe this can be rephrased for us SMO's as, "If we make the effort to go through this long pre-testing, slow doctors, and silly pre-op weight loss mumbo jumbo, and are determined to jump whatever hurdles we must to have this surgery, then we will see it through by having the surgery and making the post-op changes we need to be successful."
I am going to attempt to guess how your thinking and I can just say this:
I think this is true, to a degree.
In our WLS situation... We are the dog. We each have overcome obstacle after obstacle to get to our surgeries. Some of us have spent years in this slow, grooling process. Why would we jump through these hoops the doctors require us to go through, if once we reach the surgery were are not prepared to have it? Why would the dog run to the bone if he was not going to pick it up and carry it back?
Well, Willby all I can say is this...
I think there is another saying you might have heard of, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."
What does this saying mean to you, my dear Willby?
To help you out I will rephrase it,"You can lead a SMO to wls, but you can't make them have it."
Best of luck my dear, clever Willby, still trying to make up excuses why you have to have the wls. Truth is dear, you don't. It is your decision, and your's alone.
Just know that we are here to support it no matter what!

hi virginia and sipele,
wow! I knew I could count on my sister smores to come up with a meaning. i like both of yours better than what I think it means. It has to do with gossip. If a person(dog) brings you a piece of gossip....chances are that same person will carry gossip about you away(the bone)
DONT ASK ME!!!!!!! I'm just along for the ride!!!!!!!
But thanks for your guys input!!

Hi Willby
,
I'm not quite sure what message you were trying to convey with this post, but I agree with you, I like Virginia and Sipele's interpretations of the statement much better also. They put a lot of thought into it and came up with something everyone here could relate to, I'm sure. As for the "gossip interpretation"
of the statement, to me it sounds exactly like Oprah's all-knowing kind of wisdom (not a huge fan either). I'll be the first to admit it... I do bring gossip to my friends, but I can honestly say that I do not gossip about my friends, and if they are truly my friends, they know that about me. And truthfully, I believe that most people out there gossip; some just don't admit to it, and some do it so cleverly that a lot of people just can't see it for what it is.
Very interesting topic
!
Take Care,

Hi Tanya,
I really wasnt trying to convey any kind of message. I really was interested in what others thought about that saying. I'm with you about Oprah.....if she says "the sky is blue" ............people almost fall off their chairs applauding. Not everything she says is soooooooooooo profound.
My family does a lot of gossiping. Always mean/hateful things about each other. I do admit I like to hear it,,,,but not when its about me
Virginia and Sipele's interpretation ARE much more optimistic, arent they?
Thanks for answering the post.
take care
