How about a Shout Out for the Shrinks of the world??

Hi Everybody , This may sound like a strange post, but I've been thinking about it lately. First of all, we may not all have our own private shrinks like I do , but most of us have seen them for one reason or another... being obese and being depressed kind of go hand-in-hand. And also, they are a big part of the WLS process. I know for myself, if I hadn't gotten a glowing report from my Shrink, I may not have even qualified for the Bariatric surgery program, and my dream would have died there. Sure there are a lot of doctors out there who are jerks (Sipele knows what I'm talking about) - some are PCPs, some are Cardiologists, some are Psychiatrists, etc., but there are also some very good, decent, caring doctors who see beyond our SMO exteriors and treat us as human beings. I have been very fortunate to have a lot of those doctors in my life... my PCP is great, my Surgeon is great, but most of all, my Psychiatrist has been the one who has stuck by me through the good and bad, the ups and the downs, and through thick and thin lierally ), and he is a huge part of the reason I am where I am today (which is better than where I was yesterday). I just want to take this opportunity to give him and his fellow "shrink colleagues" props for the good that they do . Am I a little ?? Yeah, I am (along with Soos, Margaret, Candy, Sipele, Deb, Carmella... man I could go on and on - lol), but I'm better because of it ! Our struggles shouldn't define us, but I believe they do help shape who we become as individuals, and if we allow it, they can make us better and stronger. Tanja

Hi Tanja, Well said!! It's true that most of us come here to vent about experiences that we've had with the drs and medical assistants, and lab techs that poke us wrong (ouch!) I think that sometimes we as SMO's forget that there are some of those people that are truly on our side..through thick and thin as you put it Tanja. I think that if we can remember the good experiences, and look out for others who follow us in the process they call weight loss surgery....all the better. I had a great shrink(for the wls) requirement. He told me that he didn't care if I was crazy or not..he just wanted to make sure I understood that things in my life would change..and not always for the better. I am doing this for my health. Some people might do it for just getting into a skinny pair of jeans....don't get me wrong. I want to lose weight and thus improve my looks and self-esteem...but I really need it for my health's sake. Just a thought. Take Care Virginia

Hey Tanja, Im here for a shout out to the good shrinks. I know myself that I am a bit of a lune, but I am not certifiable yet. You guys are my personal shrinks since I can share everything with you guys and get all the support I need.
