Renee, I had lap rny and took 6 weeks. I still felt a lot of fatigue for a couple of weeks after I returned to work. Don't ru**** it isn't worth it! Also, when you have open you are at much greater risk for hernias, so please don't ru****! Lori 384/282/170

Renee, Whether you have lap or open, you still have all the same healing that needs to be going on inside. If you get 6 weeks from work take it no matter what you have done. I had open and was back part time in 3 weeks. But I didnt get paid if I didnt work. Most important is to take care of you. Soos

I was off 8 weeks and was made to go back to work. I should have been off a couple of weeks more. I do heavy physical work. Pf I had a desk job I could have gone back a lot sooner.

Renee, I had open RNY on July 25th and went back to work on August 22-exactly 4 weeks to the day. I was supposed to stay off for a full 6 weeks-and really needed to. But I'm a teacher and the new school year started on Aug 22 and I needed to be there for the kids. My surgeon let me go back. Alot will depend on your state of health before the surgery-mine was poor, and I have a BMI around 60. This is my 9th surgery-some major some minor but I don't do especially well afterwards. I have had a fever and incisional infection since surgery. I'm definitely better but the going has been slow. Oh, yeah, I'm an older geezer too-almost 54. Good luck, and take as much time as you need and can afford. Sherry
