Dorthe, Thank you so very much for your words. YOu really know how I feel. I too cannot remember when I was under 300 lbs. let alone under 250. I believe the last time I was under 200lbs. I was in 5th grade!!! I need to recommit as well and I think that I am am desperate need of maybe some behavior modification therapy and a nutrition meetings. I ahven't been to the nutritionist since right before the surgery. I will definitely take you up on contacting you very soon. Erica

Hey Dorthe!!!!!!!!! SO good to see you on here... You've been on my mind a lot lately.. I hope all is well... (as well as can be expected I guess) and I hope to see ya on here more!! Sorry for the hi-jack Erica.... I am pre-op and can't add a whole lot to what the others have said.. I will say I've seen people who were told their losing days were over and they followed the pouch rules and got back to basics and proved the dr's wrong! It can be done.. You're gonna do it!!

Hey Erica, I'm still pre-op so I don't have a lot of post op advice to offer, but what I can tell you is that getting back to basics is a great place to start to get back on track. It doesn't mean that you aren't still making progress sometimes you have to go backwards in order to go forwards. I think the weight that you have lost so far is a tremendous accomplishment. However don't let the surgeon or any one else for that matter tell you what you should be happy with (weight wise). Only you know what your goasl are and only you can say when you have reached them. Keep fighting for all the things that you had WLS for in the first place. Remember where you started this journey from and harness your desire and strength to help you get to your destination. I know that you will accomplish all that you set your mind to. Good Luck, Kim

Kim, Thank you so much! I forgot about the saying that you must go backwards in order to go forward. That is so true. I will keep that in mind, when I feel so very discouraged. I know where I want to be, I am just falling to oneside and need to get correct. I feel a lot better then I did a few days ago and that is because of this forum. Erica

Erica, My heart goes out to you .. you're expressing what my one fear is ... that I will have endured all this and still not lose what I need to lose. I started at 442 and am 311 now, and yeah that's a great weight-loss ... but I don't want to be overweight anymore. I want to be within a normal range!!! I don't have to be a slender willow of a person, just let me get below 200 and I'll be happy. So, I do relate entirely to what you're saying. I've heard so much about the "honeymoon" period, and no one can agree whether it's 12-months, 18-months or 2 years. All I can say is "milk it for all it's worth!!!" Don't let your surgeon's words de-rail you now. Go back to the basics (I'm getting ready to do just that) and fight it!! We all deserve to get to within a normal weight range. Just for reference ... I've two cousins who both had WLS on May 20, 2004. One was about 350, the other very close to 400. The first is now at goal at 145 and has moved to a maintenance diet, and the larger one is right about 175 now. That's in about 18 months for them. The larger one says weight is still coming off, granted not as fast, but it's still coming off. So I use this as a rallying thought for me. Certainly if it can happen for them, it can happen for me (AND YOU!!!). Take heart, friend, and keep on keeping on. I wish you all success!! from Missouri Myra

Myra, Thank you so very much. YOur examples of your family members does give me hope. I totally understand what you mean about being under 200 lbs. I said that when I get to to 199 I am going to have a huge party!! I guess it will just take a little longer to reach that milestone. Basics here I come!!!! Erica

My doctor briefly discussed people with very high BMI and said that for some patients he has done the RNY procedure and then once they stop losing weight that way, he does a lap band on the existing pouch to help to continue weight loss. Just a suggestion you may want to discuss with your doc. Congrats on your weight loss and don't give up!!!

Thanks for mentioning this, J Mo ... it might explain a rather "cryptic" sentence my present BS said to me at last exam ... he has a tendency to analyse expected weight loss by using the average weight lost per month to date, and then projecting that onto a 1 year time frame. When he did this with me, of course, I came up short of losing enough in a year. When I expressed my distress about that, he said something like, "don't worry, if you still have alot to lose when your surgery result interval is over, there are still things we can do". I didn't press him further on that, though, and I've wondered what he may have meant. It's definitely worth putting this into my "questions list" for my next exam in December. thanks! Myra
