My Doctors Visit *Long Read*

Well, Today I went for my Echo test. And in doing that, I found out that, I have to have a holter monitor, and stress test. I have had the holter monitor before back in 2002, so I am not scared about that! HOWEVER I did encounter fat predjuice today! Pissed me off. The technician made a comment..ONE, I was rather uncomfortable because when, he handed me the gown he had a smirk on his face, and that made me feel..strange. So while, I am laying on the table, he says to my sister who are you? She said I'm her sister, and he says to her, well what are you doing to help her with her weight! I was speechless, and in my head, I said HERE WE GO!! I believe my sister was speechless also because, she didn't answer him, and he said to me well okay I'll ask you! And he asked me. I said well, that's why I am here because, I want the gastric bypass. He said ah, I see well, I think that is the easy way out. I said well that is your opinion, he patted my hands and said I knew you would say that! I sighed, he said I know you would curse me out I can handle it, and proceeded to say that he knows it's not easy. I was horrified! One!! I don't understand why, he couldn't just do what he gets paid to do..and NOT give me advice as if, he's Dr.Phil! It really ****** me off that people think that CUTTING your digestive tract is the "easy way out". He doesn't know me, or ANYTHING about me! It took me YEARS to actually say YES to this!! I have cried, I have prayed, and ask for guidance from my God. I think it's RUDE when a person thinks that they can comment on your weight EVEN if they are in the medcial field! Don't they know that, we as fat people have feelings also!! However~I kept my cool which was cool because under any other cir****tanes I would have wanted to cuss him out!!!! What a patronizing dickwad. Some medical people (usually 2 year degree tech folks as opposed to RNs or MDs) develop a sort of medical baby talk. They think that doing your x-ray or looking at your urine under the microscope makes them you personal hospital mommy or daddy. If you ever get that kind of treatment again, sit up, give the guy the Evil ***** Death Stare and say "You're making me uncofortable. My medical choices are none of your concern. I'd like you to go get your supervisor, because I no longer trust you to do this test." That would be a measured, polite response. If a waiter at a restaurant made a remark to me about my health choices, I'd be speaking to the manager PDQ. We should expect the same level of courtesy and professionalism from a hospital tech that we do from the guy who serves us a salad (or a huge cheeseburger) at Appleby's. At the very least. Hindsight is 20/20, and I can't say I always stand up for myself when I should. What you can do now (and should do, so this guy won't make his opinions known to the next big person who has to endure him) is tell the doctor who ordered the test about it. I'd also call that department at the hospital, ask for a manager and demand a written apology. WLS isn't an easy way out. If you're doing it through a reputable surgeon, you have to do plenty of dieting and exercise before you go under the knife. Even if is easy, what of it? If you're in a burning building, and can easily escape through the window, do you go all the way to the other end of the house to use a door? Hell no. When your life is on the line, you don't have to make excuses for doing everything you can to save yourself. If anyone ever tells me my surgery is the easy way out, I'll look them dead in the eye and say "Damn straight it is. What's your point, asshole?" I'm tired of putting up with this sort of BS. You've made the best choice for yourself, TT. How you deal with your medical problems is nobody's business. The best reply for anyone in the tech field who says something stupid is probably "Gee, that's swell, but I didn't ask the hospital janitor for his opinion of my medical plan, and I don't remember asking you, either." It's *****y, but it gets the point across. Good luck. Don't let the *******s get you down.

Did you see a doctor today or just the tech? Did you surgeon send you to this place? If surgeon sent you i would inform you surgeon what this tech is doing and saying to this patients what a a***ole. that makes me so mad like we don't have enough dignity issues when we go to doctors office anyway because 99.99999% of them don't even had sitting for SMO'S. If it was a hospital i would call the head of the hospital what happened to you and your sister today was totally uncalled for.

TT The tech who administered your test is a MORON! When it comes to fat prejudice and dealing with idiots like this guy I always consider the source. I'm not gonna lie when I was younger it really got to me I can't tell you have many jerks like this (men and women) whose comments sent me home in tears. Then I realized these people have nothing over me. I know that I am no better than any one else and those who think they are are the ones with the problem. My mother is a therapist and I can tell you it's the ones whose wife is cheatin on them or they can't make the rent or their privates are too small or someother BS situation going on in their lives that makes them feel the need to dump on us. That person doesn't know you, and you for that matter don't know them. DO NOT let someone like that rent space in your head. They're not worth it. As hard as it may be I'd forget about it and move on. At the very least I would feel sorry for the poor ******* because of his ignorance and lack of compassion only a shell of a person would have made such a comment to you or anyone else. So to those people I say wow you must really have it bad. I'm not justifying this guys behavior or telling you to pity him. I'm saying who cares what a loser jerk like this thinks any way. I am sorry that you had to go through that. What a jerk that guy is. His Mama just never taught him any better, I guess. I have been going through this crap from my father in law lately. He thinks this surgery is the easy way out, and he thinks that I am doing it, so I don't have to TRY. Hello!!! I just want to knock on his forehead to see if anyone's in there. People like these guys just don't have a clue about what a huge decision this is and what a major surgery this is. It is not the easy way out. We can feel sorry for people like that because they are simply speaking like fish with paper buttholes.
