Ruth,
This is an interesting article. For years I belonged to NAAFA and I was part of BBW. I thought, "I don't want to be discriminated against. I'm fat, it isn't hurting anybody, so what?" Well, it was hurting me. After I turned 40 years old, I ended up with breast cancer. I'm now 44 years old, I've had tons of health problems in the last 4 years and 8 surgeries. My health is so much better now that I've lost 104 lbs. I still have 110 lbs to go, but, I can't believe how good I feel. I can't be a fat advocate anymore. I just wish that I wouldn't have had to take such a drastic measure to lose weight, but, I had no choice. Took me 5 years to make the decision. I was really ready and I think that is why I've done well.
Anyway, I feel for every SMO I see. I sure know the pain they go through. But, I sure don't recommend the surgery to every one. I've seen too many people really struggle with it, because they weren't ready to make the lifetime commitment to it or they had a very unfortunate surgery complication and their lives are screwed up for good...it has to be an individual decision and the person must be ready!
Sorry for preaching. The article brings it out in me!
