Virginia,
I am a college counselor and you would be amazed at how many people are just short their math credits to graduate! That is why I work with people right from the moment they walk on campus to deal with math anxiety and get them taking math from the first semester (some have to start at the very basic and take math for many semesters to get to college level but it can be done!)
If you ever want to finish your degree... most classes are good forever (tho some science courses have to be retaken for some programs if over 5 years old). You might be surprised at how close you are STILL to graduating!!!
Just a thought from the crazy counselor!

Hi Patti,
Yes, yes, yes, I DO have math anxiety! I was a straight "A" student..except for er..ah that four letter word (math) I could help my kids with all their homework except math..I past that one on to my husband. I just have a mental block in that area. Just thinking about finishing those classes make me nervous...even more than having wls on November 23rd!!! Weird huh??? I guess I think out of the other side of my brain..duh??? Thanks for your kind thoughts counselor lady.
Hugs and Smiles,
Virginia
Virginia...
I know what you mean about your being nervous just thinking about math!!!
There are lots of mental exercises that can help with math in general that I give to students. Some have it so bad that we actually make special accomodations for untimed tests and testing outside the classroom... there are alternatives!!!!!
Girls are socialized from a young age to think that they are good at language arts and boys are good at math and science. This is actually not true on a basic level... yes, by the time people get to college they have been brainwashed into thinking that and have often taken basic classes so that that they are not prepared to take college level math. However, once the women get into class and overcome the anxiety and negative self-talk, they score higher than men in math courses... true fact.. the math gpa's of women are higher than those of men. We just need to figure out how to get past the darn anxiety (and it is actually different to have math anxiety than to have test anxiety... two different beasts!!!!!)
Anyway, I am not going to preach... I just always get excited when talking about education since my job is working with women who have special barriers to education (I work with MANY women who are returning to school after being out 20-30 years!!!!)
HUGS (and don't panic.. we are just TALKING about math.. you don't have to even look at any numbers!!!!)
Patti
) Would you rather have been born a man? or are you happy being a woman?
I am happy to be the queen of my domain!
2)Do you have any college?
I am a chronic student...let's see...
...went for three years to a private Christian college in Kansas when I was fresh out of highschool and didn't have a clue what I wanted to study so I did various courses in education and business then decided I wanted to go to seminary.... so I did a two year associate's degree in Christian Ministries in California... then I went to nursing school at a community college in Washington State and was almost done with that program when I decided I DID NOT want to be a nurse but rather a counselor... so I just finished an associate's degree in liberal arts there... went to Eastern Washington University for a couple of terms and studied developmental psychology when I was offered early admissions to a graduate program so I earned my master's in counseling from Regent University in Virginia. Now I am in the fourth year of a six year doctoral program and am studying to be a psychologist.... so.. YES I have gone to college... too much LOL!
3)Do you think there is life on other planets?
I think that there might be... no reason that God only created us!
4)If you could live your life over........would you?
No, it hasn't been perfect but I think all of my experiences are important to who I am.
5)Do you like Oprah?
I like her some times... depends on the topic... I am not the least interested in famous people so if she has a show that is just showing off an actor or singer. I turn the channel, if it is a topic of interest, I watch (on the rare occassion when I am actually home in the afternoon).
