Most Excellent Birthday Weekend!!!
Last Friday was my birthday and my hubby took me away for a suprise weekend and it was SOOOO nice. It was our first time of staying at a Bed and Breakfast. I LOVED it!!!! We travel quite a bit and do the hotel thing and that is nice but this was just extra relaxing.
On Friday we arrived at about 4:00 and got settled into our suite (we had a beautiful bedroom, a bathroom, a full kitchen (like I was going to cook, yeah right!!!! But it was cool to have a freezer to put all of our restaurant leftovers in and we are still eating them!!!!) And we had a nice living room to boot! The B&B had gorgous gardens and decks. We went shopping on Friday night at the Williamsburg outlets and bought some fun things and Cory a few new clothes... his are all falling off of him! We went out to eat at a nice steak house and I actually was a bad girl and ordered a piece of cake (first sugar since surgery). Cory and I each had two bites and he had me hold the candle that was on the table and sang Happy Birthday to me. Then we went and did a little more shopping (at a Christmas store.... LOTS of pretties HAD to come home with us!) When we got back to the Inn it was about 11:00 and still probably 65 degrees so we sat out for about an hour on the deck in rocking chairs and watched the stars... man, I NEVER get to just sit and star gaze (usually can't see much in the way of stars in the city!)
Saturday we woke up Cory had laid out all of my clothes for the day and my makeup and hair stuff was all set up on the vanity next to the bed. I really was a queen! Breakfast was yummy!!!!! We were the only guests that night so we had our own private chef. We then went and spent the morning at the Yorktown battlefield (where the Revolutionary War ended). We learned so much about history and the scenerey was phenomonal!!!! Lunch was at a quaint little place called the Carrot Tree Kitchen that was in a house that was built in the 1600's. I had an awesome quiche. Saturday afternoon we shopped at little shops along the river and again found things that we could NOT live without LOL!!!! Then we went back and took an hour nap before going out to dinner at one of my all-time favorite restaurants called Seasons Cafe (I don't know why they call it a cafe as it is nice china and crystal and has chandaliers.. .oh well!!!! When we woke up we smelled the most incredible food being cooked in the kitchen that I wanted to go invite myself to indulge in... the next morning we found out the inn keeper made a special filet mignon, lobster, and crab imperial dinner for his daughter who was home from college. Man, I don't know if I have EVER smelled anything so good! We got all dicky-doo'ed up... Cory in a suit and me in a purple velvet dress. I had a beef, chicken, prawn, and veggie saute that was really good. Again, the night was beautiful so we sat out on a park bench in Williamsburg for about an hour just people watching and snuggling.
Sunday we got up and had another great breakfast but this time the inn was full so there were four couples. I am not big on chit chat just for the sake of chit chat but it was ok to sit around the table and visit for a few minutes. Then Cory finished packing the car and we went to church at a very old (1697) Episcopal church. It was small and less formal of worship than our church but it was nice. We then went to a re-enactment of the Yorktown Tea Party... apparently several towns dumped tea in the water in support of Boston... so again we got lots of history. We finished the day off with another visit to the Carrot Tree Kithen (yes, it was THAT good that I wanted to go back again). Then we headed home with all of our junk and SEVERAL doggie boxes from our meals out.
It was a wonderful weekend! We have been doing get-a-ways lately for gifts instead of buying actual gifts but then we end up shopping and coming home with way more than we arrived with! OH WELL!!!!
So, the start to year 38 was great!
