please help the cook
Hello all. This is Jenifer, Jeremys partner. And I need help. I do all the cooking for what little food Jeremy is eating. We were going to have the surgery done in the states and got all the info from the doctor on what she can eat after surgery. In the book it says she can have tuna, chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots, yogert, suger free jello. But we ended up going to mexico for the surgery and the info they gave us was for the first 6 weeks she is allowed, suger free jello, broth, eggs, yogert, steamed vegis, cottage chesses.
So my question is she is now 2 and a half weeks post-op and what all can she have. All she has eated is eggs, jello, yogert, cottage chesse, and potatoes. She is wanting chicken so badly and we don't know if she can have it. Please any ideas would
. . And speaking as someone who is eating the same things as she is to support her I am honestly getting tired of potatoes for dinner and cottage cheese for lunch.

Hi Jen!!!
I'm glad Jeremy is doing good.
I had my surgery May 23rd. Here was my plan:
2 weeks, Liquids--Broth, Jello, s/f popsicles, protien drinks,
Next 2 weeks, pureed..........ANYTHING but it had to be pureed (drinkable through a straw) Get her some Beef Stew in a can and puree the hell out of it. She will think she went to heaven!!!! Hormel chili, or make it homemade and just puree it!!!
Next 2 weeks..Soft Foods.......
Last 2 weeks regular diet. (whatever I could tolorate) I still don't eat certain things.
I think that chicken is too soon for her to eat. Keep her on pureed stage for atleast 2 weeks, and the move up to soft foods.
If you have ANY questions, please feel free to email me. I have a booklet here that my NUT gave me for food ideas, I'd be more that happy to copy it for you guys and mail it to you. Let me know if you need anymore ideas.
Carmella
Hi Jen,
I don't have a whole lot to add to what Carmella said, although my plan was a little different time-wise. But... the only thing I can say is, if she wants chicken so badly, maybe try the chicken in the can (like tuna and pureed, of course) or puree some regular skinless, boneless chicken with some chicken broth to make it moist. I know it's probably not what she's looking forward to, but I believe Carmella is right when she said it may be too soon for just a regular chicken breast. Sending my best wishes to both of you, and that's very thoughtful of you to follow the same diet for support.
Take Care,
Tanja
I THNK EVERY MD HAS A DIFFERENT MEAL PLAN. TRY CREAM SOUPS, YOGURT, SUGAR FREE PUDDING, SUGAR FREE FUDGESICLES, PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS, APPLESAUCE, BANANAS,TOMATO JUICE/V8 JUICE, NO ADDED SUGAR ORANGE JUICE, LOW-FAT/SUGAR FREE FROZEN YOGURT, SOFT CANNED FRUITS(PEACHES AND PEARS). YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO RUSH THINGS.
HOPE THIS HELPS,
SANDRA
Hi Jen!!
How is Jeremy?? I have been thinking about her so much!!!!!!!!! I hope the shingles have cleared???
Every Dr has a different post op eating plan... Please tell her to be patient and things will get better.
Susan Maria Leach wrote a book and it has awesome post op recipes that combine things into wonderful soups and omelettes... Perhaps this would alleviate the boredom??
I do know several post ops that can NOT handle chicken for a long time after surgery. If she ventures into different food... please try to avoid chicken or anything else that can get "stuck"....
this is Susan M.'s 1st recipe for after surgery...
6 C chicken stock
3 Large Eggs
1/4 C Grated Fresh Parmesan
1 T Finely Chopped Flat Leaf Parsley
Pinch of Freshly Grated Nutmeg
Kosher Salt & Black Pepper to taste
Bring Stock to boil... reduce heat and simmer
In Large Bowl Beat Eggs-Parsley-Cheese-Nutmeg with a fork
Add to the Soup while beating with the fork. As you pour the eggs use the fork to keep the eggs broken up as they hit the soup.. this makes little flat "noodles" out of the egg.
she has TONS of excellent recipes.. perhaps you can borrow the book from the library while you are trying to think up ideas.
Good Luck and tell Jeremy I miss her and wish her all the best!!
