I am just over 6 weeks post op and I feel like I can eat too much. I am able to tolerate anyting I try and have not been sick since the day I had surgery. I sometimes think that my surgeon did not do anything to me since I feel like I can eat too much at this point in the process. My food intake for today was as follows B: 11 oz protien shake L: chicken and cheese from 1/2 of a crispy chicken wrap aft Friendly's and a few fries D: 3 little meatballs w/gravy-3 tbsps cottage cheese 1tbsp greenbeans-and about 1tbsp mashed pot/rice/stuffing w/gravy from Ponderosa. I do drink anywhere from 48-64 oz water and I do not snack between meals. I do not have a hungry or full feeling ever. Please advice....Should I contact my nutritionist?

Hi Cassandra, No need to contact your nutritionist. I felt the same way. I use to think my surgeon didnt do anything but cut me open. I still tell everyone I have a spandex pouch. I have a journal of my food from the time I was six weeks out. I also ate more then others. I averaged about 1300 calories after 6 weeks and I still eat up to 1800 cal per day. I have lost 160lbs in 15 mos. You are doing great. Think of what you would have eaten without the surgery. It would have been more then a "few" fries. My only advice would be to eat the protien and do without the fries only because you dont want to get into an unhealthy eating pattern. I havent touched a fry since before surgery. I too, have never gotten sick or nauseous. The variety of foods you are eating is good. Just remember to do the protien first, then the carbs. If you snack, do a shake or a protien bar. You will eventually feel hungry and full in time. Just keep up the good work. Hugs, Soos

Marlena, I dont think you should be eating anything yet. Just try to keep to the soft puree foods because you pouch needs to heal. Just try to do sugar free popsicles and pudding and soups and stuff like that. You really should be on liquids for the first 2 wks. I guess every doctor is different, but Im not sure I ever heard of eating anything that isnt pureed that soon, so maybe you can call him if you cant wait till the 29th. Just make sure you drink your protien and water. Hang in there, and good luck to you, and welcome to the losers lounge. Hugs, Soos

I am still a newbie compared to you but it seems to me you are eating sensibly small meals and doing just fine, and if you don't feel hungy then I would say you are probably right on track! Good luck to you and keep up the good work. Happy Thanksgiving.!

Cassandra, It looks like you are doing fine. The hunger does come back after about 6 months, so keeping to healthy eating habits will only help you! Keep striving to get in more than 64 oz a day of water. You will do great! Lori 384/274/170
