Swallowing Pills
I plan on asking my surgeon on Wednesday at my consult, but was wondering when you were able to start swallowing pills, even if you had to divide them up. I'm not supposed to be taking the childrens chewables for a vitamin, but I have to because I can not afford the adult chewables and the ones I did find in my price range tasted like dog doo. Thanks for your responses.
Take care,
Anita
Hi Anita,
I'm almost 8 months out and still don't take too many pills ... only the very smallest ones. My PCP switched my pain meds to liquid at the get-go, and for a while I took one of my "long-time, and for-life" medications in liquid form. I went back to pill-form on that at about 3 months but the capsules are extremely tiny. I've found if I follow any pills I DO take with a hot drink like tea or coffee it feels like it helps them pass along faster (works for me at least).
As for vitamins ... I took Flinstones Complete til my 6 month checkup when my BS told me to switch to an adult chewable. After trying out a few and hating them, I've settled in with Centrum Silver. It's big, but tasty enough, and I've found if I break it in half and eat one part with my calcium chewable it's strong enough in taste to *almost* mask that yukky calcium chalk ... then I chew the rest of the vitamin to really get rid of the calcium yuck. I found the Centrum Silver at Wallie-Mart and it really wasn't any more expensive than the rest of them.
Hope this helps,
Myra
I take optisource vitamins they are formulated for bariatric patients. You can get them at Walgreens or online at walgreens.com. They don't taste bad at all. They cost 25.99 for a month supply and you take 4 a day. They have calcium, iron, biotin, and other things in them. They have really done good for me.

Anita,
I wasn't restricted on taking pills after the first 6 weeks. I've had no problems taking them. I hated the adult chewable multi vitamin. I was so happy when my doctor put me on a prescription vitamin called foltran that is a pill, but, I think she did it at about 8 weeks out.
