What Items Will, I Need For....
Hello Fellow Smoers
I was wondering what items will, I need for the hopsital, and when, I come home? I know that I prolly *crossing fingers* will not have my surgery for a couple of months from now. I am hoping March/April truthfully, but, I wanted to know what items will, I need because I want to buy little by little because of my financial situation! So any help in this manner would be greatly appreciated.

hi t:
i stocked up on baby food and wish i hadn't. i bought broth and was glad i did. also brought home crystal light and sf popsicles. that got me through the first week or so.
for my hospital stay i used chapstick, brought my cpap, wished for my own pillow and slippers, and brought along magazines to read - a book would have been too involved.
good luck with your journey

Hi T
Everyone has different needs.................. I took a lot of things with me, I had my chap stick, books, magazines, portable cd player, etc. I did not use any of them
. From the time I arrived to my room until I left the hospital, I concentrated on walking and sipping. I walked so many laps around the nurses station, I thought I would wear a hole in the carpet. I am an avid reader, but for some reason, opening a book or a magazine did not appeal to me at the time. My goal was to go HOME!
After I got home, Sugar Free popsicles were pretty much all I ate for a while. If you don't like your tap water, stock up on bottled water.
I hope this helps!

T,
Chapstick is super important. You can't drink much and you really feel it! I brought a book, a robe, slippers and my phone numbers of people who I needed to call (as well as a long-distance phone card.)
For home, I had some EAS Advantage Carb Control protein drinks, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles and broth. I really hated drinking the broth straight, but, found I could tolerate it if I squeezed a little lemon in to it. After I moved to full liquids and soft/pureed foods, I started getting creative with soup recipes and used up all the broth.
But, be careful in stocking up in advance. Your tastes change and what you think you will be eating, may or may not be what you actually eat.
My best advice between now and your surgery would be to educate yourself. Go to the library and read all the books about WLS. It really helped me prepare! If you need some title suggestions, let me know.
Good luck!

Hi TT. My most valued possession at the hospital was my chapstick. It was a life saver. I also took slippers, toothbrush and toothpaste. I did take other things that I did not even use such as reading material, music and a few other things. Make sure you take comfy clothes for coming home in. Hope that this helps you a little bit.
