Did anyone have open rny?

greetings vicki! i don't want to be in disagreement with all the other responses, but the top 4 inches of my open rny incision DID pull open about a week after surgery. it wasn't anything that was terribly painful, but it was GROSS! i had to pack it twice a day with damp gauze. they don't sew them closed if they do open up. the doc said once it happens, you have to allow them to heal from the inside out. it took several weeks, but it eventually closed up nicely and is all healed now. so, while incisions CAN open up, it's not terribly difficult to cope with...just bothersome! best of luck to you! deb -204

Hi Vickie, I had open RNY on November 9th and have done really well. The first week was uncomfortable but not unbearable for me. Sleeping at home was hard for a few days so I just sat up on the couch and put my feet up and did ok with that. I am 3 weeks post op as of 11/30 and doing really well. I've lost 31#'s and I'm down 10 inches in my waist. I wish you the best of luck. As for infection I washed with dial antibacterial soap for 3 days prior to surgery and did this 2 times a day. Anita
