Any SMO slow loosers out there??
Am I the only SMO in the universe that is a slow looser??
I am down 77 pounds, and lemme tell ya im happy for that don't get me wrong.
But I see other people loosing soooooooooooooo much faster.
I think Im not getting enough calories in.
I am REALLY trying hard to get more cals in....
Excersise wise, I could use more. I walk around my apt complex..unsure of how far it is. But I will be getting a treadmill tomarrow. Somone is giving me one. woohoo!! I will NOT use it as a clothes dryer hahhaha
Anyhow, I suppose I am a slow looser because truly I didnt do alot of diets preop.
So I dont know how fast I would loose.

hi donna:
77 lbs in 4.5 months is pretty good, donna. isn't that an average of about 4 or 5 lb/week? i'm glad you're getting your treadmill though. i've been off and on mine since surgery, as other cir****tances permitted, and my eventual goal is 20 mins at least 3 or 4 times per week.
keep up the great work, donna. i think you're doing just fine.

I was thinking the same thing. I started out at 464 back in June. I am now about 370 at the 23 week mark. That's 94, but I am always reading about people losing 100+ in 3 months... I figured I would lose much faster because I started at such a high weight. Also, I am in the gym at least 1 hour per day 5 or 6 days a week.... Then again, as long as I am losing, it is ok... just a little slower than I figured.

Hey Sam,
I read your profile, I cant tell you how many times I have lied about my preop weight to have a test..lol
Hey we gotta do what we gotta do eh?
Good job on your getting to the gym every day, when my car gets out of the shop, I will follow your example.
May the rest of the weight fall off our arses, and we run like the wind....

Heya Sam
I got my profile (which i messed up a bit and need to get it fixed) made by a volunteer. She did a awesome job, but now I am rethinking Id like a new motiff
Anyhow, do contact the HTML volunteer team, tell them what you want on your profile, and they will get it for you
I assume you, as a guy, would like guy type themes..baseball, basketball, wrestling, racecars...tell them anything you want, and they will fix it for you.
Thanks for reading my profile...you are way sweet!

I am not sure there is anything such as a slow loser anymore than there is such a thing as a slow breather... the body adapts and tends to do what is best. Tooter on the main board has some interesting remarks on her webpage to address this issue. Here are some ideas to give you hope (as long as you are not losing because you are hanging on to some bad habits! - like drinking liquids with sugar etc.)
Gradual weight loss is healthier than rapid, sudden changes in weight
If you are truly adopting new habits, then you may continue to lose beyond the 18 month window (see Tooters page or ask around)
Keep an eye on your labs... if your surgeon isn't, then check with your PCP - sometimes thyroid problems etc can slow down weight loss (if you are already on medication - then remember that your food is not the only thing that is malabsorbed!)
My body seems to wait for my mind to catch up -- whenever it gets a little scary for me... it is almost as if my body conspires against me to hang on to every little drop - then when I get comfortable again - there it goes
Usually by the time we achieve SMO status... we have screwed our metabolisms up royally - it didn't get that way in less than a year... and it probably won't readjust to these changes that way either
Remember that weight charts are based on averages.... just how many of us are average????? Heredity and body type have a lot to do with just how much someone SHOULD weigh.
Are you feeling better?? ARe you healthier??? It is so easy to be consumed with numbers and forget the real objective of this surgery... to regain our health and extend our lives. Please don't minimize your achievements and work toward long term maintenance rather than a "number" which determines how happy you are with yourself. I have been working hard at just feeling good and believe me there are the odd moments that I wish I could go back to pre-surgery just to feel one of those days when I really felt on top of the world.
Hang in there! Good Luck!! Hope this helps a little!
B
