newbie
Hi I am new to this. Just found the board and have been doing lots of reading. It is amazing how various docs recommend different things.
I am scheduled for roux y on January 3rd. My doctor is adament about protein supps and not chewing so I need some suggestions. The nutritionist recommends the powders, any favs out there?
Ah this waiting is crazy, I am starving. Not physically hungry but emotionally have a need for the elbow to mouth reflex. Just knowing that I will not be able to eat solids for a while is frightening especially after reading about how disgusting the supps are.
Please advise. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

hi liza:
welcome to the board. we're happy to hear from you and i'll try to answer what i can. and i'm certain you'll get lots of help here. these people are wonderful.
i had rny - lap on 2/8/5. after surgery the first week out was the hardest. it's amazing how quickly you bounce back and then start to melt. during the first week you mostly sleep and sip, sip, sip, walk. at that point you aren't as concerned with supplements as you are with getting in your water and walking.
after ten days i went to pureed. at that point i was feeling much better and for pureed foods i liked the baby food fruit - don't buy the meats(they're awful). you can do softly scrambled egs. you may want to try sf applesauce. i had chicken broth with a noodle or two. i know some on the board will recommend pureeing anything and everything but i honestly found enough smooth food without using the blender. i liked the sf pudding, had sf popsicles and sf fudgsicles and ice cream.
when i got switched to soft food i was ready to try chili, 'cream of' soups, tuna, salmon, eggs, cheese, chicken - all chewed thoroughly.
my doctor tells me that after the first three months he doesn't want protein to come from any liquid source. if we chew all of our food we will reach satiety sooner and he wants us to develop the knowledge of when we are full and develop a pattern of eating that will serve a lifetime.
sorry this got so long, liza. i really just wanted to welcome you and allay any fears of not being able to eat. it's a wonderful journey and i'm certain you will be amazed as well as happy with your choice.
hope you come back soon.
