Follow-up from Endoscopy ...
Well ... had my endoscopy this morning ... and the results weren't exactly what I was wanting to hear.
Not only has the ulceration not healed (in 8 months), it's gotten larger. It's centered around an old suture, believe it or not, that hasn't dissolved. THAT'S what's keeping the irritation going. The BS said the suture needed to be removed, and tried today, through the scope, to dislodge it and pull it free, but it wouldn't budge. Because it's located right on the "suture line" where my pouch is attached, it's a delicate maneuver, and today he said he didn't want to pull on it too hard with all the ulceration around it.
So, I'm back on Nexium for the time being, and he wants me to eat "bland" over the next few weeks and give it a little more time, now he's manipulated the suture (I guess to see if it goes ahead and dissolves or whatever), and repeat the endoscopy in 6-8 weeks. If it's not better then he said, "then we'll talk about alternative treatments". (I've got no clue what that means, but I'm not going there in my head right now ... I'm not borrowing worries, just concentrating on today.)
I feel like I've swallowed something that did a cold-burn on my windpipe, but otherwise, am fine.
How's Candy? Anyone?

Myra,
Im so glad you got your scope done! So many people put off out of fear of what it might show!
The good news is that now you KNOW what is causing the ulceration and your doctor is working on correcting the problem!
Ill keep my fingers crossed that the nasty suture dissolves and the ulceration clears up!! Let us know what happens!
Hope you had a great holiday!

Hi Myra,
I'm so sorry to hear about your endoscopy problems. I have been having problems in that area for the past 2 years....that was one of the reasons that I wanted to have the wls.....to get rid of the GERD. I have been off and on Nexium this whole time, and I noticed that when I was off it..I had heart-burn gallore. I simply hated taking it because of the $20.00 co-pay. Tell me why? Why would I think nothing of spending that on my kid or hubby's prescriptions..but mine...I gotta think it over..ya know. My surgeon had me come and have the endoscopy on the Friday before my surgery. He wanted to do it himself. He told me that everything looked good and he saw know reason why I couldn't have a normal lap surgery. Guess what??? I didn't have a normal lap surgery and I don't understand why he didn't see my hernia strangulating my lower intestines or the peptic ulcer that they removed....It just would had been nice to help me prepare for the 3 surgerys for 1 surgery that I ended up having. I hope that soucher desolves and "shakes loose" that ole hernia away from your pouch. Who wants another surgery right now anyway?
Hugs,
Virginia aka Ginger

Thanks for the responses, everyone ... it means a lot to be able to bring worries only those who've been through or are going through the same things will understand. I've felt so very good in the last months that it took me by surprise that this was still there and worse. Just goes to show us that problems with this kind of surgery can be subtle and hidden, and that we've got to be constantly vigilant, doesn't it?
I did ask my BS if my pouch was stretched any at all (that was a big worry to me for some reason) and he said it wasn't, so there's a ray of sunshine for me in this whole thing ... I'm reassured my tool is still intact and working well.
Thanks again,
Myra
