So mad and sick
Ok so this morning I had a small road trip to take and decided to try a small diet coke ( No flaming please) so any way I let it get all flat and start sipping on it and thought WOW this tastes really good. So a little later my stomach starts to hurt so I figure maybe all of the carbonation isn't gone. Then I proceed to get this really sickening sweet taste in my mouth and so I take a small sip and my brain says hey this is regular coke!! I have my 11 year old taste it and he says yeah its regular coke as well. About 10 minutes later I have to pull over and I was for sure I was going to die. I was in such pain and agony. I look online and a small coke from McD's has 40 grams of SUGAR in it and I had all but a couple of sips of it. I feel like total crap and have sure learned my lesson from this one. If you order drinks out especially from a fast food place have someone else taste it before you drink away like I did.
Take care,
Anita
Does anyone know why this bothers some people and not others? I am just curious, because I have no problem with anything at all, and never have. I had some homemade chocolate chip cookies someone brought to work. I ate a couple of my son's butterfingers after trick or treating. I have been eating nuts since a few weeks after surgery with no problems. I never get nauseous about anything, although on occasion I feel like I am going to vomit because I ate too much, but so far, I have not encountered anything that disagreed with me, including diet pepsi (which I have always drank and Doctor says it's OK), and not sipping, either, long, deep swigs of soda, right ought of the bottle. Bread, spaghetti, rice? No problem at all. I can only eat small amounts, which is good, but I can truly eat anything I want, whish really surprised me. I never had any discomfort drinking like some people complain about, never had to sip, use straws, and so far I have lost 105 pounds. In fact, sometimes it seems like the more I eat, the more I lose. Some days I don't feel like eating at all (but still manage to get in 10-12 cups of coffee lol), and don't lose weight. It's funny how that works. I was kind of hoping for a little biological filter to keep me on the straight and narrow, but it's missing.
Carrie, I was kind of wondering the same thing myself because I am pre-op and I was counting on NOT being able to eat this stuff, I am a little concerned now, because I dont want to do this and end up being able to eat all the things that got me here in the first place. However it is encouraging to know that you have continued to do so well despite being able to eat sweets, good for you!

Thanks Karen, Thankfully, sweets were never my problem, I always ate sweets very rarely, and always drank diet soda, never liked cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc. My problem was always eating a LOT of food (like a whole 16-oz porterhouse with a big baked potato and lots of butter or the biggest prime rib at the restaurant), so this works good for me. I can eat anything at all that I like, but very little. Now, I can have maybe 2 bites of the steak and 1 bite of potato. If I buy a fried chicken tender dinner from my favorite restaurant, I can eat 2 and not the 18 that come with the dinner. It's a huge difference. So far, I am not complaining! Don't worry, though.....you will do fine. I think it would be really hard not to lose weight with the restriction.
Good luck,
Carrie
