The Biggest Loser
I think that show is horrible and the way they treat those people is just wrong.. I've only watched a few times but that's all it took.
They would NEVER take a group of alcoholics to a bar and tempt them! So why can do that to people addicted to food? Why does the world enjoy watching those folks struggle so much??
I've watched it and personally I think they do a great job.
Why do you tempt people with all that food? Because your decision to lose weight doesn't erase temptations from your world. They're there and you better know how to deal with them. Our FRIENDS and FAMILY are worse than that show could ever be. "Oh, come on. One brownie. What's it going to hurt? You can go back on your diet tomorrow, just come drinking with me tonight. Don't you want just one more piece of cake?"
Sound familiar? It does in my world.
I watch it because I identify with the people and their struggle. We are tempted everyday by food we shouldn't eat. Don't you think alcoholics are tempted to drink everyday? Being faced with it head on and finding new ways to deal with the urges is what it's all about. We don't get morbidly obese by following the rules, exercising and controlling our urges...at least not for the most part.
They may be put into an "artificial" situation. But that is to "purge" them of their old habits and teach them new ways to approach food and eating. Then after a few months, they take what they learn and return to the "real world" where they have to apply all those new things they learned and deal with real life temptations.
I think it shows people that they can overcome difficulties, but it takes major changes.
IF WE ALWAYS DO WHAT WE'VE ALWAYS DONE, WE'LL ALWAYS GET WHAT WE'VE ALWAYS GOT.
The one thing I could do without is the voting off of team members. I think they should just go by overall percentages. That way it doesn't matter what weight someone is or their BMI.
I'll wear a t-shirt with a S'more on it to show much much I lubbers you.
Honestly, if I could be on that show, the $250,000 is just gravy. If I could just stay on the ranch long enough to learn a lot, lose a good bit of weight, and really kick start a healthy lifestyle, I'd happily give up the $250,000.
Ooooh, I tell ya what. I'll start practicing now. If I win, I'd do this
right there on that great big scale. How would that be?

Thanks for your support!
Brandy
Brandy, good for you! I think you are one brave girl and it sounds like an exciting opportunity! I myself have thought about it, but the one thing keeping me away is having to be away from my daughter for so long, I couldnt handle that. Plus I agree with what you said about temptations being everywhere and you do have to learn how to deal with it! My family is definitely a major culprit in temptations. Good luck, I'm cheering for you!
Karyn
Hi Karyn!
Thank you. I'm a bit worried about being away from my kids for 10 weeks too, but I figure that my losing weight is as much for them as it is for me. They have very involved grandparents who are supportive of the idea. I'd miss them and they'd miss me but I think we can handle 10 weeks.
And I HEAR you on the family thing. My mom, bless her heart, is the diet killer. I hesitate to use the word diet, but you know what I mean. If I decide that I need to cut back on the pasta, she's right there with a big fat lasagna asking me if I want seconds and reminding me that final exams are coming up and I really should eat some "brain food." She's ROUGH on the resolve. That's why I think its actually a good thing to put these contestants in a room absolutely FULL of their favorite bad foods. They have to learn how to say no.
I'm looking out my window at work right now... know what I see? A McDonald's... within walking distance. And a coffee shop with loads of sugary drinks, Ohhhhh, and there's a Burger King just behind the McDonald's, and a Mr. Happy Burger.
Lovely isn't it?
