Exodus From Obesity (cross post from May 2005 board)
Hey SMOers, I posted this on the May babies board, but, thought you might be interested as well:
I just finished reading "Exodus From Obesity: The Guide to Long-Term Success After Weight Loss Surgery" by Paula Peck. Before my surgery I read so many books about the surgery and about life immediately after. It was nice now that I'm just over 7 months out to read tips for staying successful in the long term.
I have to recommend it.
The other book I've read that has made a big difference in how I approach eating since WLS is "Superfoods RX" by Steven Pratt & Kathy Matthews. For those of you not familiar with it, it is a book about the top foods that have the most nutritional content per serving. I've tried to base my diet on them. I can't tell you how good they make you feel. Salmon, blueberries, pumpkin, almonds, soy, broccoli, beans, tomatoes, oranges, spinach are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. All my friends tell me I have a "glow" about me. How cool is that?
I'm now reading the followup book that the above authors just put out called "SuperFoods Health Style: Proven Strategies for Lifelong Health." It focuses on the superfoods, but also the importance of three other factors to health, exercise, emotional health and spirituality. I know I'm a geek and have approached this whole WLS thing kind of like a science project, but, it seems to be working for me and I thought I'd share my enthusiasm with the rest of you in the same boat as me as we try to figure out how to live for the rest of our lives and be healthy!

Lori, what good suggestions! I too am interested in learning about eating to improve the quality of my life, so these books shall be so helpful, I copied the names and shall search for them! I am such a terrible reader and get most of my books on tape from the reading of the blind, but these kind of books sound like they are informational and might be easier for me to read! I desire this information. I am trying to prepare my mind and foods for this surgery... hopefully 2006 will be my year to have it!
Big hugs,
Aunt Pam
