Good Morning My Smo Family!! I was just wondering..........when was your first memory of using food to comfort yourself? How old were you and what were the cir****tances? I think mine was when I was about 7 or 8. Everyone was outside sitting on the stoop(it was summertime). I snuck into the house and made 2 pieces of toast. (now that I think about that........you can smell toast cooking a mile away). I was so little that I got out the mush from the fridge and thought it was butter! I just knew that I had a huge hole inside of me that I could only fill with food. How is that possible when I was so young? Do any of you think we are born this way? Thanks for listening to me wax and wane willby PS: You guys mean the world to me!!!

Hi Willby, Great question. I can think of two instances right off the bat here. When I was little (about 4 or 5) I climbed up to the medicine cabinet to get into the chocolate flavored EXLAX....remember when they kept it wrapped in foil...just like a Hersey Bar?? Well, I ended up in the ER for obvious reasons. Also when I was in 7th grade...my desire for sweets was so strong that I hopped on my dad's bike to go to the local conveinience store for cookies and a candy bar. After I bought my stash, I hit a curb and crashed the bike. I woke-up in some stranger's living room with a policeman standing over me. Oh...did I mention this was at night and my parents were at a Cub Scout Training Meeting and I was supposed help watch my little sisters. After all that...I never got my candy bar..my brother took it! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Oh, the memories that revolve around food! Hugs, Virginia aka Ginger aka former"Cookie Monster"

Virginia I thought I HAD to be the only one!!!! My family LOVES to tell anyone that will listen about how I ate EXLAX!! When I was little (not sure how old) we used to live with my grandparents. They had a two story house in Maryland and the upstairs was a separate apartment for us. Anyway, I can remember seeing it sitting on the table between my grandparents chair and just like you said it was wrapped in foil and well it said Hershey's to me.... so I ate it. I don't remember going to the hospital and my parents never mentioned it so I guess they just figured I'd poo poo a lot and I'd be fine. Also there was the time in the same house where at the age of 2 or 3,I guess, I ate FIVE hotdogs. They fed me upstairs and I just waddled on down to grandma's part of the house and ate more!! When I was little I can remember my grandmother buying me pretty dresses and stretching the arms or cutting them to make them fit. When I was probably 6 or 7 (we were living in Ga and I had a younger brother and sister) my mom would hide food from me. It became a game to see if I could find the good stuff. As we got older the younger ones always depended on me to find the junk food. They were allowed to have it but I wasn't. My mother swears there were times when she wouldn't let my father bring candy bars into the house because of me but I can't remember that. I was treated like a handicapped person..KEEP FOOD AWAY FROM JAMIE!! That should have been the sign outside my house that or DON'T FEED JAMIE!! Boy childhood wouldn't do it again if you made me. I'm sorry to hear you have to lug that medieval torture device around for a while longer. Just imagine how good you'll feel when its finally gone!! Take care girlfriend!! willby

Hi Willby, Wow this question not only made me think, but it made me smile too! I can't really actually remember this, but my favorite aunt loved to tell the story of when I was 3 years old and she would babysit me. I absolutely loved her oatmeal and raisin cookies, and one day I wanted one, she told me she hadn't made any, but did I believe her? OOOOHhhh nooooo way! She said when she left the room to do something, she heard a noise and came back into the kitchen to find me climbing up on the cabinet and reaching my hand into the cookie jar. And guess what I found? COOKIES!!! She always told me that she didn't want me to spoil my lunch. Bless her soul, when I think about it now, I know that food and me were always going to have a battle. Hugs Theresa PS Willby, I absolutely love your posts!
