discuraged, surgery date 12/9 and...
I had surgery on Dec.9th 2005 I refuse to step on a scale at home, and my last doctors appointment was 3 weeks ago and I was down 30 ponds. If I count the two weeks prior ( the liquid diet ) I have lost 47. I don't think I am loosing fast enough. My clothes still fit and I think as far as portions I can eat too much. I don't expect any profound replies, I am more or less just venting. Thanks for your time!!!
Keri
Hi Keri,
It's perfectly O.K. to vent here. I had my wls on Nov 23rd..so I'm not that far ahead of you. I never counted the pre-surgery diet..my scale says I lost 45 pounds..but I don't see it yet. I happened to measure myself the night before wls and I lost inches on my head and neck..Oh, also on my feet. They are not as puffy and bloated as they used to be. The rest of my body seems to be the same..it is kinda frustrating..I want..I mean I NEED a change to make me feel like it was all worth it in the end...I want new clothes, I want people I haven't seen for awhile not recognize me. Yes, you are normal. I am trying hard not to compare myself with others..it's hard though..Hang in there Keri..I'm with ya !

Keri,
I truly think it is really hard for us to see ourselves as others do. I have lost over 100 pounds since August (but nothing since Christmas) and beat myself up everyday because I believe I look exactly the same, no matter what people tell me. I know in my mind that 100 pounds is a lot of weight, and it must be noticable, but I just don't see it. I am still wearing my pre-surgery size 32 pants (although I fit in a 22). I just don't feel like I deserve new clothes yet. I think it takes our brains a while to catch up with our bodies. Hoever, since I had a doctor's appointment today in the big city, I went out last night and bought a new outfit, very flattering polyester pants (OK, I am a loser, I love the way polyester feels and fits, always have, plus I love everything about the 70's) and a fitted sweater, new bra and underwear, and I put on my 5" Stuart Weitzmans, and walked into my appointment, 6'4" and feeling like a supermodel (and crossing my legs). It really does make a difference.
Good luck to you! 47 pounds is great! I know we all hope going into surgery that we are going to be one of the amazing success stories you hear about where you lose all your weight in 4 months, but, truthfully, I don't think it happens that way too often. And, without surgery, it would have been a lot harder to take the 47 pounds off.
I also feel like I eat too much, but some days I eat almost nothing. some days, I can have a whole burrito, a big stack of cheese and crackers, a half a cheeseburger, lots of coffee and diet soda, and still feel "hungry," and other days, a chili from Wendy's will provide 3 meals. It all works out in the end.
Good luck. Keep your head up.
Carrie
Try to remember your body is still healing from surgery.. And your body is in shock from the change in lifestyle.. It might take a little longer for your body to adapt to the changes..
My surgeons office has a huge poster on the wall for those that think they are slow loser.. Its simply says "slow and steady wins the race"...
Good luck!
Amber
