Wish me luck! Surgery 1/31

To repair my ginormous, disgusting, alien-like, basketball size hernia. I saw the surgeon today and asked about it and he says, "Yeah, that's really big. You're going to want to get it repaired as soon as possible." So he went to the secretary and told her I needed a date, she said the first one was in March. He asked me what date was good for me, I told him Jan 31, a Tuesday, and looked in his book, and told the secretary, "Cancel this lapband and reschedule her in March. Put Carrie here." I was very pleased, but, of course, I could not help thinking about the poor woman whose surgery is being rescheduled. I am also concerned a little about the apparent urgency. He told me to limit stair walking (I live in a 4th floor walk-up and have 2 kids!) and not to carry anything more that 5 pounds. Truthfully, I am a little nervous about this. The surgeon says the surgery will by 4 hours (the original bypass and hernia repair was 7 hours) and I have to stay in the hospital overnight. Maybe because the surgery is scheduled for 3. Wish me luck! Carrie

Carrie, It will probably be a disappointment for whoever got their surgery postponed, but things happen for a reason.. Be thankful that you have a surgeon who cares enough about you to realize that this matter needs to be corrected ASAP and is willing to do what it takes to do that.. Be careful and follow the doctors orders! It wont be easy with 2 kids and living in a walk-up, but he knows what is best for you.. Sounds like he truely cares about you, your health, and your safety!! Amber

Good luck on your upcoming surgery!! I understand about the limitations the Dr put on you and he did it for good reason I'm sure, but in the meantime you do have to continue to live life so just take it as easy as you can. Everything will work out great. Take care, Anita

I understand, I have a similar basketball. (Nonsurgical origins) It doesn't give me much trouble so I have just been living with it. It does seem like some alien parisitic being doesn't it? My "plan" is to have WLS this summer and then have panniculectomy/hernia repair the next summer. That's my theory at least. I will be praying for you.
