Suggestions hospital
You won't need a housecoat. The hospital will have gowns to fit. What they do is use two gowns on you -- one serves the purpose of the robe.
I didn't have slippers. The hospital provided socks with grippy stuff on the bottom. I didn't like those, and just wore my shoes when I walked the halls. I'm fearful of falling, and my shoes are very comfy and have rubber soles.
I brought a book, but couldn't concentrate on reading. I also brought a creap CD player and a bunch of CDs I burned just for the occasion (spoken word stuff, music, etc.). I had blistex, but didn't end up needing it.
I also brought my CPAP machine (I have apnea), some perfume (didn't use it) and a list of contacts for my sister to call after surgery. If you have soap or shampoo you really like, you could bring that. They let you shower about 48 hours after surgery. They'll give you soap and shampoo, but it's nothing fancy. If you have nice things from home, I think that would be a comfort.
Lotion is a good idea. The hospital will provide it, but it's not great stuff. I think baby wipes might also be good. You do a lot with your hands and can't always go back and forth to wash them.
Good luck with your surgery. You'll be a post-op success before you know it
The hospital told me to bring nothing, and since I am not a planner, that was fine with me! I brought a change of clothes, my purse, my laptop and some DVDs, which I never watched. They do have giant gowns at the hospital. I got dressed a couple hours after surgery and took a walk outside (I am such a loser - I had to have a cigarette). The hospital I was in had Keri lotion, which was good, but my skin was not dry at all. I stayed 2 nights, and spent most of my time outside in the "big city (had my surgery in Boston)" people watching. You won't feel like reading or sewing or writing. Bring your cell phone or a phone card, though. I wish I would've had that.
Good luck
Some things I took... hope it is useful
earplugs: - there was a moaning man down the hall and this was the best $2 investment I ever made!!!
lotion - something that smells great and makes you feel good... I am very sensitive to smell... and one of the aides told me confidentially afterwards that it was such a pleasure taking care of me since I smelled good and that most obese people with this surgery didn't. I used the body butters - also helped with the itching from the medication
back scratcher - boy that morphine gets me every time! - makes me itch
a long body pillow - I could lay it down in front of me and it made it a lot easier to turn from side to side (which you should do every 2 hrs to prevent post-op complications
blistex - i get dry lips anyway and this was wonderful for me!
a puzzle book - my surgery was delayed about 3 -4 hrs because of the person just ahead of me - I could at least distract myself a bit
i did take slippers and gripper socks of my own - I can't stand it when my feet get cold and they are the first part of my body to get that way- they even let me put them on before surgery
Good luck

Hi Marie
I took a bunch of stuff to the hospital, but only ended up using one thing and that was the chap stick.I was so out of it......my sweet daughter Emily even had to put that on for me. Everyone is different though......better to take a bunch of stuff and have it than not take it and need it. YEP! I'm
!!! Good Luck!
