2 WOW moments to share - 1+ and 1 -
Hi all ... I wanted to post and tell you all about my two WOW moments this week ...
one was superfantasticgreatIhaven'tbeenabletodothatin25years(!!!) and the other was unbelievablewhatsomepeoplewillsayinpubliclikeIaskedfor
heropinionanyway
First the good one:
Today is my birthday (well, that's not so great ... I'll be 56 at 5:01 p.m. today)
... so to celebrate Dotter Dearie #2 hauled me off to St. Louis yesterday, so that she and Dotter Dearie #1 and Son-in-Law Dearie (the only) could take me to lunch and ... *drumroll********* please ... a MOVIE!!! I went to a movie !!! and fit in the seat!!! My bigbutt sat right down in that seat and said ... "ahhhhhh... I fit"!!!
Later, we were talking and we think that "ET" was the last movie I saw in a theatre (whenever that was). I'm still smiling over this one.
Ok .. the negative WOW (as in WOW I didn't know people could be so hateful):
Was at the beautiful shop getting a haircut last week ... (not one of those sleek new types of shops where no one knows you, but the other kind where everyone knows everyone ... so, I get a lot of comments about my weight when I go in every 6 weeks or so ... everyone's happy for me, etc.) I'm sitting there getting shorn, and one of the beauticians walks past and asks me how much I've lost and I tell her, and she walks to her customer and says "She's lost 160 lbs, isn't that great!!!" and then in an aside to the customer that I could hear, she added, "She had *that* surgery" and nodded knowingly. Ok so that didn't really bother me, I'm used to it. It was the venom in the customer's reply that surprised me ... she said, "Well, I think that's just disgraceful, that surgery kills so many people, and I think she was STUPID to have taken such a chance just because she was too weak to diet like normal people!" (followed by a rather crappy look in my direction that reflected in the mirror in front of me). I just smiled and didn't say a thing, but my hairdresser said "Old Biddy!!" under her breath, which cracked me up.
It just reinforced to me how misinformed about WLS alot of the public still is and it was more sad to hear than upsetting.
Ok there's my two WOWs. Sorry it was so long.
Myra
Myra,
The first wow is fantastic and I'm constantly amazed myself when I easily fit into seats for the first time in many years. It is great!
I think I would have had a very difficult time not saying to the rude customer, "Weight Loss Surgery isn't for everyone. I'm thankful it has been a success for me!" It is a dangerous surgery. But, we all know that being SMO carries big health problems and not possible health problems like the surgery!
Myra, you are doing so great! Hang in there and hang with us, the people who understand.

happy birthday, girl.
i hope your day was as special as you are.
your wow theatre moment is putting a smile on my face as i write this.
and as for your other wow - please go back and kick that person's big frickin mouth in. i don't know how you kept your cool so well. i tend to blow up on those rare occasions when someone lets me hear them say something in that negative a manner.
anyway, myra, happy birthday, again.
talk to you soon.
hugs
dorthe
Hi to all and thanks!!!
Just an aside on the "biddy" ... I live in a small town, and she thinks she's one of the big fishes in this little pond. That, combined with the fact that she used to run a "Diet Center" outlet here (and never was such a skinny-minny herself) is probably where all her *knowledge* (cough) and her "I'llsaywhatIwantcauseI'msomebodyandanexpertoneverything" attitude comes from. We all know the type, don't we?
Somehow she always shows up on when I'm there (she's probably one of those *standing weekly appointment* types, whereas I'm a once-every-6-week trim. So ... maybe I'll take "WLS for Dummies" with me next time, and give it to her ... tell her she might "bone" up before "spouting off". Of course I'll smile when I do it cause my Momma raised me to be a lady ...
to all
Myra
