I couldnt be happier...... I recently had my surgery 10/28/2005 and thus far have lost approximately 86 lbs. -- my BMI started off pre-surgery at 70+ -- I lost approximately 10% of my bodyweight to qualify for surgery. Having this surgery has really really saved my life, and I couldnt be happier, I can do things now that people of normal weight take for granted. I often post to the main msg. board or to the October surgery msg. board, and while they are Great! I find that I am an oddity, not many there are as large as I am, and it seems like their weight loss is going much quicker than mines, I know I'm not supposed to comapre, but its hard not to, but I dont take it to heart, especially after I read their profile and find out that they started off at 200+ pounds, geez! I cant remember when I weighed that much, my starting weight was 381 with a weight loss of 25lbs. pre-op and a gain of 15lbs. and a loss of 5lbs. the closer the surgery got I just recently saw my PCP on 1/2/2006 at I weighed exactly 305, I havent seen that in a good while either, this weight loss is phenominal, I couldnt be happier, and now that I've found this board, I'm absolutely extatic {sp?} -- I hope you all will allow me to stick around for awhile. Well its nearly quitting time here, and I've talked my head off to you all enough, so I'll say good night, but not good bye, just I'll see ya later....

Welcome, Latricia. This is a very supportive board. We know that being SMO is a different kind of hell. You've done great so far. Are you able to exercise yet? It's crucial to getting the most weight off for us SMOs, I believe. Best of luck. Kasey 365/210 (nonop)

Hi Latricia, Now you see why all of us find comfort in the fellowship of this BMI over 50 board. It is hard not to compare with people who start off weighing 200-250 pounds. Even when a person loses their weight and are at or near goal..I don't think you ever really forget what it is like to be SMO. That is why we all stick around. I hope that you stick around and maybe we can learn from you some of your "tricks of the trade" Hugs, Virginia aka Ginger

Welcome Latricia! I am just now weighing 258 (started at 384) and feel great about it! I still have 90 lbs to goal, but, it finally actually feels doable! Yes, lots of folks have this surgery at the weight I am at now. They don't have the same experience. Lori 384/258/168

Hi Latricia, I just found this board too! I know what you mean. I started at 402, got down to 370 before surgery and am now at 247. I usually post on the main and CA board or I lurk mostly. Anyway, I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you that can relate. We BIG girls need to stick together. Take care Latricia and keep up the good work... Kristen
