Ginger First of all,,you poor baby, I am so sorry that you have to go thru all of this, but knowing you, you will come thru it just fine. However, I am confused, as I did not know what Paracentesis was, I did a search, and from what I gathered, it is a procedure, not an illness, it is a procedure to remove excess fluid from the abdominal cavity. Did they reomve fluid from you?? If so, that will tell them what is going on with you. Please correct me if I am wrong. I know, the last think you need is a nit picker when you are feeling lousy,,but I had never heard of it, and wanted to know just what was up with you. If you need anything, please let me know, I could be there in an hour and a half. Luv ya Vee

Hi Vee, Thanks for your well wishes. Two days before Christmas I had redness blots around my incision. The Dr. even took a "sharpie" pen and dotted all around where my redness areas were. At that time, he did do a procedure to open my insition more with what looked like an exacto knife. At that time I was told..(cause I closed my eyes tight!) That they extracted fluid from the area to see if it was infected and if the antibotics would help it. Oh, did I forget to mention that they numbed the site? After 1 day with the wound vac on..the redness disappeared..so evidently either or both things worked to get it right. You would had laughed so hard to see all these dots..dashes..and dates written on my belly with sharpie pen. Your kids would have had fun doing the dot to dot LOL! Anyway, the dr. told me that this redness could travel to my vital organs..geeess! Maybe I said the wrong medical word that was mumbled to me..I gotta admit this medical thing is all new to me!! Another word the doc mentioned was ASCITES (spelling?) I need to check out web MD. I called the Wound Center this morning and talked to a nurse that told me to just continue the meds and come in on my regularly scheduled appt on Friday morning. I guess it all depends who you talk to. I am trying to take it easy..but you know how it is..trying to hold down the fort. How sweet of you to offer to come down to help to my end of the state...I'll be fine and this redness will be outa here by Friday I bet..maybe I should get my sharpie out and put dots and dashes all around my redness area to "prove" It was really there and I'm not just a hypercondriac LOL Take good care of yourself and stay away from the flu and/or creeping crud! Ginger, You are not a cry-baby! You are one of the unfortunates that this hasn't been an easy thing for. This surgery has about a 30% complication rate. I'm glad your posting so pre-ops can see that this may be their experience as well and can plan for the worst, hope for the best. I'm wishing you a better experience from this point on! Lori

Dear Lori, Being one of the 30% has made me do allot of soul searching lately. I really hope that folks out there don't think that I am trying to steer them away from the surgery. It's taken me what seemed like a long time to feel like the "real" me but, I'm only now just learning that others feel pretty crappy after the surgery..lap or open...complication or no complication. It's not just me...It's not the best time in my life right now..but things WILL get better. I don't regret the surgery but.....
