Healthy at 290???
Hello everyone!! Can anyone help me with this one. I started at 405 pre op and the day of surgery I was 395. well anyway in one year I have lost 100pounds. I workout often at the gym. Is it safe to say that this is a different kinda 290pounds. I can run on the treadmill keep up with a high impact aerobics class for one hour. I have been on a 3month plateau from hell. I am begginnig to feel like a failure like I am not going to lose any more weight. Did anyone go thru that?
Congratulations on your weight loss and your greatly increased health. I know one of the things going on is you are building muscle mass and it weighs more than fat. I would bet you are losing inches. I would also guess you aren't eating enough to keep up with your activitie level and your body is in starvation mode. I reccomend you increase your caloric intake by increasing your protein consumption. Try tracking your food on Fitday.com. Many very succesful people on the main board do that. You also may want to go to the weight loss grad board and ask questions. I am sorry I don't have a link there. Good luck. Loris
Try having 8-10g protein within an hour after each workout. A balance bar would be fine for this. Also, make sure you eat something to start your day. Breakfast jump starts the metabolism.
It sounds like you're doing amazing work in the gym. You look really good in your picture. Congrats on losing the first 100 pounds
Texas, you're awesome about working out. You are most certainly NOT a failure.
But weight loss is only part exercise. You also have to eat fewer calories than you expend. About how many calories are you getting daily? How are you doing with water and protein? What does your bariatric surgeon say? Your profile doesn't say which surgery you had RNY, DS, lapband? That can make a difference.
Best of luck.

Yeah.. but you can't entirely tell about that... if you read some profiles you will see that people continued to lose past that 12 month or even 18 month window (see Tooters on the main board for one example) ... everybody is different... I thought I had finished as well... and then, out of the blue, without any differences in habit, i started to lose again as well.. I am 14 months out... keep up good habits and focus on living well and let the obsession with eating fade into the background... might be surprised at what happens. I have never counted a single calorie or gram of protein since I started this quest... I just don't want to trade one obsession for the same obsession in a different form!!
