Hello everyone, i'm finally back to the board. I had my RNY on Jan, 5th but developed complications and had to have 2 more surgeries afte that. So, I came home last week. Boy, it's been a tough week. I was not prepared for the adversion to food. I don't want to eat or drink anything because nothing taste good. I can't seem to find a protein that I can tolerate and getting in enough fluids along with eating is impossible. At time I think I can eat too much and at others feel so full. I never dreamed it would be this tough. I am walking my four times a day and I think that helps me mentally as well as physically. But have been quite discouraged. Any helpful hints? Thanks for listening and congratulations to those who have had surgery while I was away. Sandra A.

Sandra, This is why I think it is so vitally important for new post ops to post what they are going through, so the pre-ops can get an idea. This is not the easy way out! The first seven weeks can be hell...I hope it gets better for you from this point. Just do the best you can in sipping the water and getting in the protein. Each day it will get better... Lori

Hi Sandra, Oh my..didn't realize how rough you had it. I was just going to post today to ask if anybody had heard from you. What kind of complications did you have? It is really discouraging to lay there in that hospital bed, wondering and hoping that a doctor is gonna walk through that door with good news abosed to the bad news! Don't beat yourself up if you aren't able to get every protein gram or water in that day..just do the best you can...your body will let you catch-up later. Oh, my other advise is...try,try ,try to not compare yourself with others..by far the hardest! Hugs and welcome back Sandra! Virginia aka Ginger

Hello Virginia. I went home from my RNY and two days later developed nausea, vomiting, pain and a fever of 103.1. So, back to the hospital I went and they did exploratory laparascopy to find 2 abdominal abscesses. 6 days later my white count was still high and they did surgery to find my omentum(a fatty later that protects our organs) was hard and inflammed so they had to open me up to take part of it out. So, I had 3 surgeries in about a 2 week period. Thanks for the encouragement and hope you are recovered and doing well from your complications. Sandra A.

Sandra, I agree that the first several weeks can be rough. I did not have a lot of pain, nausea, etc., but I was completely exhausted. I barely got in 24 oz of fluid for the first 4 weeks and absolutely no protein. Every one I tried tasted awful. The surgeons office told me not to worry too much about protein for the first 4-6 weeks, and did not even do blood work for 3 months. They said to just try to get in fluids. I am sorry you had such a rough time, but things will get better. Carrie
