Six Weeks Post Op
I had my 6 week visit with my surgeon and nutritionist today.
The nutritionist was happy with everything I am doing. Just need to keep my eye on the fluid intake. I need to drink more fluids.
Surgeon was happy in general said that I look good... my skin looks good... my incision looks great... I have edema..... he thinks I am retaining water. I have only lost 25 pounds since surgery, which was disappointing to both of us.
That is why he thinks I am retaining water. So, he wants me to go back on the blood pressure medication that I was taking preop. Essentially it is a diuretic, so I will know tonight if I am retaining water. Funny thing is that I have felt very bloated the last few days, and I never made the connection.
I think that my thyroiditis is playing a role in hindering my weight loss, but the surgeon would neither confirm nor deny that idea. I tried to make an appointment with an endocrinologist today and apparently no one has any openings until May!! Bummer. Oh well...
I go back the end of March for my 3 month post op visit. I really can't complain though. I have had no nausea, no vomiting, and no complications (knocking wood now) so far.
So, combined with the weight I lost before surgery, I am down a grand total of 48 pounds. I'll take it!
Huggs,
Ruth
I can't believe it's been 6 weeks already!!!! I'm so happy for you! You are doing great! I cried when I read that you were approved! I have Cigna also - so I know what you were going through. I am grateful they approved my surgery finally and I'm 4 months out next week.
Isn't this awesome!!! I'm happy to see you are doing so well! I hope the new medication works for your water retention. Just keep working on the fluid intake, I struggled so much in the beginning and I drink much more now. It'll get better!
Take good care and God Bless!! Carol V
Dear Ruth aka "Twinnee"
Ausome report from your 6 week thingy! You are doing great! Who would have known that last February..you'd be sitting back and looking at this great accomplishment! I'm with Carol V. I cried when I found out that you finally got approved. Hopefully your trials with the insurance company run-around will aid somebody else out there..lost in the insurance maze. I'm glad you posted about your bloating feeling. My homecare nurse mentioned each time she visited me...that my ankles and feet looked bloated. I had a hard time explaining to her that my ankles and feet ALWAYS looked bloated..infact one foot is fatter and wider than the other. After my wls..my feet were the first noticable sign that the surgery was working..they were going down in puffiness. Maybe I need a diuretic too..I never thought of that possibility..duh! Wow, with the diuretic, you will really need to work on tha****er intake right??
Take care cutie!

Hey Ruth!
I am amazed at it being six weeks already. Man, where has the time flown. I have to say, dont let a lil puffy water hanging around make ya dissapointed. You are doing your best and thats what counts. That Dr will get to the bottom of whats going on. And then girl. its away you go..... shrinking more and more. So hang in there and it will get better.
Hugs Marge
Ruth... well????? did the water pill work????? I think today I must have been having empathic water release for you, as I have gone to the bathroom sooooooooooooooo much. I'm hoping it worked for you too! ha ha ha
I am so proud of you. Sending you a big hug!
thinking of you,
Aunt Pam
PS don't forget your water/liquids!!!!!
Ruth,
Since you lost 23 lbs pre-op, it makes the post op weight loss seem slower. You lost the easy stuff first! but, hang in there...try not to compare yourself to other's weight loss (I have to remind myself of this all the time.)
You are obviously doing the right thing...drinking more water and keeping your protein high as possible really helps!
Good luck!
